Steam is crap again today. The Steam store loads slowly both within the Steam client and when viewing from any web browser. It only happens on the cable connection. :\

Hah, I have a friend that uses Vodafone up in Waikanae, and the first thing he said to me today was that he was frustrated with some issues he was having with the Steam store. He's having the same exact issues that Scotty and I were complaining about earlier.

He didn't even know that I was having problems with Steam. He just started complaining about the issue completely out of the blue.

It's amazing that I don't see more complaints at this rate.

Working ok down the line a bit in Paraparaumu Beach (assuming that the problem is navigating around the Steam store) and general web browsing.

YouTube completely dead in the water for me in central Wellington @ 9:20pm, even though I'm hitting close to line rate on my 50/2 cable plan.

YouTube is a wreck tonight. I'm running into several videos that will start loading at 240p after waiting for a couple of minutes, but will buffer indefinitely at 360p or higher. :\

YouTube is consistently getting worse and worse. It's taking ages for certain videos to start buffering on specific resolutions.

Forty seconds to load a thirteen-second video. Fantastic.

122 seconds to load Geekzone. speedtest.net shows reasonable results.

Had to wait over half a minute for a 240p video to start playing, and I can't get to Imgur through the cable connection. :\

Why can't we just go one day without any problems?!

Kodiack - I think 16 of the last 23 posts here are just you complaining about something that seems unlikely to change. What are your reasons for not switching to another ISP? Presumably either the performance is good enough and better than the alternatives MOST of the time, or you're locked into a contract. Have you asked if they would waive the contract term given your continuous issues?

(Note I am NOT saying move to Spark - I'm genuinely interested why anyone would stay with a provider that - from your posts, seems to have continuous problems)

Cheers - N

Well, our connection is free until Vodafone gets their crap sorted, so there is that. :)

Chuckle - that's _a_ reason I guess :-)

Personally if it was half as bad as you describe then the connection wouldn't even be worth that much to me... How about we all stipulate to the fact that it's crap for you until further notice and you can update us when it's fixed :-)

Cheers - N

[FWIW - I do a lot with our Google and CDN capacity and performance and I am subbed to this because I can't understand how the performance could be as bad as you describe for as long as you have - but every time there's a notification it's just you saying "Yeah, still sh1t"]

That wouldn't be enough to keep me. I would rather pay for ADSL (hell, I'd even pay for dialup) - it's got to be more reliable than what you've got right now. Besides, they won't let your connection be free forever.

I'm not holding my breath for any fixes. And this is one of the few places where I feel like anyone can actually fully relate to my frustrations. I can't imagine not being able to hop onto Geekzone and vent a bit. People also shouldn't go silent and just hope for the best. We've been waiting for over a year, and the issues have only gotten consistently worse.

I'm past my tipping point now, though. I'm no longer hoping for a fix, and I'm not looking at alternative ISPs. I'm flat-out looking to move somewhere else where I can get a fibre connection. Once I get away from Vodafone, I'm done, and I'm never looking back. I don't care if Vodafone manages to somehow miraculously push 1 Gbps while other plans only go to 200 Mbps. Vodafone has completely driven me away. We've had our fair share of reimbursements, discounts, and free Internet, but it just isn't enough. Vodafone has not in any way shown that they will be able to properly resolve these issues. Even with this connection being free right now, it still isn't worth it. I'd gladly pay normal rates if it meant being provided the service that we were advertised.

Really not sure what else I can do beyond complain at this point. I'm certainly not going to just sit around and accept this. I'm not going to be forced into a position of complacency simply because Vodafone's spent too much time sitting on their thumbs. When I've finally gone quiet, it will either be because Vodafone has somehow managed to sort everything out properly, or - more likely - because I've finally moved somewhere that lets me ditch Vodafone once and for all.

I'm sure some people are annoyed with how frequently I post, and while I am sorry for causing so many notifications, I can assure you that you're nowhere near as annoyed with me as I am with Vodafone. But don't worry, I will find a happy ending to all of this, and I'll be sure to share my joy once I make my way to greener pastures. I wouldn't like to consider myself an angry or short-tempered individual, though I do acknowledge that some of my posts have been rather hostile without always contributing anything worthwhile.

Honestly, it's not only the poor quality of the connection that's caused so much undue stress. The constant empty, broken promises always found a way to dash my hopes, no matter how much I tried to keep my expectations in check. I feel bitter and jaded now. We heard that a fix was coming in September. Then we were told by a representative that it would be fixed before the holidays. Then we were told it would be fixed in two weeks. Then another two weeks. And another two weeks after that. You get the idea.

Why have I kept any faith in Vodafone? I don't know. Naivety, maybe? I felt like this connection could have been something great. But now I just feel like I've - almost literally - been dragged along through this whole mess kicking and screaming.

I'm completely, entirely, 100% serious when I say that Vodafone has been the biggest source of stress for me in this past year. And I'm excited to be rid of Vodafone as you will be excited to see me someday gone from this thread.
