Call Telstra and make sure roaming is active in HLR not just CRM platform

Roaming you don't need to install any Apps or change APNs

kiwigeek1: beats me.. but their website says this as I posted above

International Roaming is automatically activated for Telstra Pre-Paid mobile services

her sim  is telstra prepaid

Call Telstra. What the website says doesn't mean anything if there's an error in provisioning.

It's not a locked handset (this is for preventing people using other SIM cards, not networks). It's not a bug (I've used Windows Phone 8 around the world, different models, handsets go under network test exactly to prevent this). It has to be an account setting that is not correct.

kiwigeek1: but unlocking means you can change the sim to another provider from whom sold it

roaming should be unlocked automatically.. as it uses their sim but foreign network.. both charge
hence why its like $1.50 per min and 60 cents per sms

both networks creaming of you

Which is not what happened to my sons phone it wouldn't roam here either despite Telstra saying otherwise

If the SIM worked in Australia then there is not a problem between SIM and phone, so no locking issue.

If you want to find if phone is locked, borrow somebody else's foreign SIM and try that.

The current evidence is suggesting the current SIM account does not allow roaming.

Got it sorted.. had to login with their id on telstra aus website and did a support 24x7 web chat Im guessing was in India or Philipines.. found out that phone prepaid wasnt fully activate and had to force an update there
end.. Im guessing push the number to NZ telcos to allow it

so all working.. now.. was their end not phone or setup issue after all.

which is good to know

another problem they asked about this win8 phone is no option to export contacts to SIM can only
send them out.. crazy...

I read their was a trick using hotmail (sync contacts) and filtering and gives a option to export to sim but
I havent recheck on their phone as yet if that option works

nothing like android and its apps to export and import
