I'm having issues with my RBI internet connection that I don't understand. Mainly our 4G speed has dropped way down. This started on New Year's Day and may have continued since then. Our signal comes from the Vodafone mast in Flaxmere. Before I was getting constant 50 mbps down on speed tests with both nPerf and Ookla. Now I am lucky if it reaches 17 mbps. I have to start somewhere so thought I would ask here if there are any known issues with Vodafone that could be causing this?

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

 


 

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

 


 

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

 



 

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

17Mbps is well above the regulated speed and just wait for school holidays to finish it's not a fault

I patiently waited throughout the school holidays and our speeds have only dropped further. Now I am getting 10 Mbps or less on downloads. Since the holidays are over, I decided to check with our ISP. Our friendly and helpful contact person took a look and came back puzzled. Apparently we are no longer getting our signal from the nearest mast, but one twice as far away that happens to be in the same direction! This is what has been dragging us down since the beginning of January. He has no idea why this has happened but he is now checking it out. Hopefully the matter will soon be resolved. In any case, it is good to have an answer to the problem. I just wish these kinds of things would quite happening.
