Slight variation on the usual Microsoft technical dept calling.

 

 

 

Reported to be from Vodafone Technical Dept, and did have my name ( unsure if they had any log in details) . Told me I would be disconnected from the Internet in 2 days owing to some hacking activity on my account. Started explaining how they could help me with the files etc I needed to delete.

 

They hung up with a long pause and an "oh" when I said I worked for Vodafone, and could I just pop up and see them...

Just had this call as well. Clearly a scam - very noisy chatter in the background and clearly an overseas call centre (and obviously not the generally friendly and helpful Filipino team - yes, I find them good if you take the time to be civil :-)).

 

This one hung up very quickly when I spotted the flaw in the script which was all about being connected to the internet. Being on the internet at the time helped of course, as I was able to say that I was concerned about being connected to the internet while being connected to the internet and so asked if I should be connected to the internet while being connected to the internet and did this mean I was connected to the connection that was networked to the internet network, and so networked and connected to the connection that was interconnected and networked.

 

You could almost hear the 'WTF' in the pause before the hang up. :-)

 

However - I suggest a comms to customers on this as I think it's something my olds would not be fooled by (I hope!) but they might think it was legit as they are, well, the olds and do ask some (what I think) basic questions.

Do they know your name? Do they know your customer number?

If it is from Vodafone clearly they need to tighten the hiring/contract process.

just got one of these calls. this one was about "slow texting speeds". I don't even use voda - use 2degrees for my mobile. it was an unlisted number by the way.

Most likely they've gone through a phone book which has names and numbers. Like for the Microsoft scammer I had to deal with two weeks ago, he only said Mr S E <last name> (as listed in the phone book).

 

 

 

I do hope to get one of these calls. We have caller ID, and it'll be a bit of fun.
