Hi, did anyone on an ihug email address receive an email this morning (7:30ish) with the subject "Docment2" with an attachment named "Document2.zip"?

Ive no doubt its malware/virus. The from/to email address are the same.

However what's odd is.

1) Our primary ihug address is only accessed through webmail or iPhone. I occasionally backup the account using Thunderbird (maybe once every 3 months).

2) Our secondary ihug address is only accessed through webmail (ie no other devices, at all, and I mean at all).

So how likely is it that this is a Vodafone issue? I find it highly unlikely that A) someone would have both addresses and B) the one address is never accessed from a device.

Any ideas?

Thanks

There is a lot of zip attachment malware going around email everywhere at the moment. I wouldn't read too much into it - just delete it.

Anyone noticed that the VF spam filter seems to be a bit slack lately?

Yes, I received that email around that time but GData alerted me that it contained an attachment which was a virus (having logged into webmail now I see the subject line is 'document2'), and removed it accordingly. It looked like the sender address was my email address, also.

The email is both deleted in Outlook (this morning), and now in webmail.

I've noticed a very marked increase in spam/scam type emails with my @es.co.nz address through vodafone recently too. I get at least one serious scam, or presumably ransomware email every day lately, sometimes more. I've just now been 'invoiced' for a few hundred dollars by some outfit I've never heard of.

Vodafone's filtering is usually extremely good. I've had the same email address since back in the days when a 56k modem was clever thing to have, and before ihug started scanning emails for spam and malware many years ago I was receiving at least a hundred spams a day at that time, I hate to think what an unfiltered email inbox would look like now.

Regards, Chris

I had a "Document7" email in my gmail spam folder this morning, so probably not just a Voda targeted mail drop.

I too have noticed the spam beginning to seep through, in particular some of it recently does appear to be self addressed email.

ChrisSherlock:

I hate to think what an unfiltered email inbox would look like now.

I accidentally turned it off for my catchall address on my domain and had about 40000 emails in a few hours.

I had this too, it was sent from my @ihug.co.nz address to the same @ihug.co.nz address. I thought I had emailed myself somthing that was stuck in 'drafts', naturally nothing to see in my sent items. DELETE.

About 7:19am Thursday 17th.

Aah interesting. My dad called me today as he received three dodgy emails to his iHug address yesterday. I suggested perhaps their spam filter had a day off.

Cheers,
Joseph

Same issue here, I normally get about one spam a month, but got seven last night!

Its as though the spam filter is off at Vodafone.

I noticed that the spams I am getting aren't only addressed to me, they are to multiple

ihug users.  Someone hasn't gotten your ihug database has it Vodafone?
