Currently have Snap fibre 30/10 with static ip and Sky multi-room with sport. Total a month about $260 sigh.

 

Using the vodafone fibre option, free sky sport for a year and adding multi-room it looks like costs will drop to about $175 plus static ip.

 

 

 

I used to have cable and dont mind the vodafone sky box just would like thoughts of anyone using over fibre (not cable) and also an idea of gaming pings.

  • you have reset your modem and router 
  • your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing - you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap 
  • your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing 
  • you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

 

  • Your ISP and plan 
  • Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL) 
  • Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin) 
  • Your general location (or street) 
  • If you are rural or urban 
  • If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin 
  • If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service 
  • If you have done an isolation test as per the link above 

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Fibre - via Enable not Chorus. When moved 2 years ago they could not do Enable areas.

You should be absolutely fine going with Enable for Fibre, I haven't had any complaints of latency/ping problems or anything.

Unless something has changed recently, Vodafone refuse to offer Fiber services in any area with Cable. So if the address can get cable, they will not provision you Fiber.

Since it's a new subdivision, Assume you have structured cabling

That will make it easier, as the Vodafone TV boxes just go through ethernet on fibre

Not been as easy as hoped. Took 3 weeks and multiple calls for Vodafone to even successful get a work order. Then an email with a totally unknown Rolleston address on it saying they had an oder for a phone number changes only. Finally last night enable ring and have to do full scope even tho everything is already there and then install and this will now take another 3 weeks. I get cut off tomorrow as my 28 days notice are up. Fast, no.

 

 

 

Even setting my account up in the vodafone customer zone has been a mess as I had one already from back in my cable days and it would not let me make a new one (even their tech people could not), had to get into old one and reactivate that then attach new account id. I still have to move over email (they say cant yet), still have to sort static ip (they say cant yet). The portal seems the same as 5 years ago and nothing in it relates to my account (can only setup a paradise email already have or go to clear net portal about extinct plans). Backend systems seem a total joke for such a large company.

Just adding a background note for others about the VF Set top boxes .

 

With VF TV via fibre you need a hard wired connection (Ethernet) from the Router to each of the (up to two) set top boxes.  The set top boxes are similar to the ones used on the cable connections but have the coax ports are disabled and only one of the two Ethernet ports enabled

Enable been and thrown a spanner in works. He cannot tell me if I can use the composite and hdmi backfeeds with the tv boxes :(

 

HDMI splitter to 2nd tv in another room in house - cant see this being an issue and should work.

 

Composite backfeed via modulator to tv feed in panel in garage then split to all tv in house - thinks this may not work or if does picture is horrible. Looked at current backfeed picture and said way way worse.

 

Anyone know? Vodafone call centre and shop at mall both have zero idea.

 

 

 

From manual on website "Most HD TV’s will use the HDMI connection, but the composite (RCA) audio and video connectors can also be used if preferable" Can anyone confirm if both work at same time ie this and hdmi?

Yeah I do need both to match current setup a) being the hdmi and b) the rca.

 

Hopefully will work then. Was worried would need to cancel order. Thanks for reply.
