Some pretty strong feelings on this issue by the look of it.

I am frustrated as well but changing ISP would be a pretty big decision as I have committed to naked DSL, replacing most of my telephone jacks with network sockets and wiring the telecom cable coming into my house directly to my modem. There is a lot less choice with regards to ndsl and at the end of the day I would have to be sure that the speeds were going to be better.

For my two cents worth, here are the speedtest results for my house, which is in Kelburn, Wellington. Taken at 9pm on a sunday evening on the Xnet Fusion plan.

Seems to fit in with what everyone else is getting

From my modem status page:
DSL Status: UP
DSL Modulation Mode: Auto
DSL Path Mode: INTERLEAVED
Downstream Rate: 9845 Kbps
Upstream Rate: 944 Kbps
Downstream Margin: 13 db
Upstream Margin: 12 db
Downstream Line Attenuation: 24
Upstream Line Attenuation: 10
Downstream Transmit Power: 20
Upstream Transmit Power: 12
LOS Errors: 33

LA does not look too bad to me...

So does Singapore...

Sydney on the other hand...

And Auckland as a reference...

(I wonder how much faster the internet will become if they close down all the speed test sites.)

You can never have enough Volvos!

Yeah your'e probably right. Half of xnet's int bandwidth probably gets sucked up by speedtest.net. I think xnet told Mauricio that a huge amount of traffic goes to speedtest every month.

I just got 290kbps down from LA. I might ring the helpdesk in the morning to see what they have got to say.

OK I rang the helpdesk this morning and whilst on the phone did a couple of speedtests. My speed to LA has gone from an average of around 300kbps to over 3000kbps, a ten fold increase! After this I didn't bother waiting to speak to a technician.

So without wXc posting about if they have made any changes one can only assume that they have either increased their international bandwidth or changes have been made to my profile somehow before I rang which I don't think would have happened.

Can others do another speedtest to see if your own speeds have improved.

Note that it was a morning test - I don't think anyone here has been getting bad speeds in the morning. Most people seem to have issues at peak time from 3pm or so onwards.

OK I will try again later and if it has decreased I will call the helpdesk then.
