15k/sec downloading VLC at mums place, about the same downloading a southpark episode over http.

At least the xtrayahoo weather page is loading fine still, if that works then shes happy.

I remoted home (worked fine since its national) and started the same http download from the same server on my slingshot connection and saw it hitting 170k/sec - on one thread, and thats all my line wants to do since the last reset of the dinosaur m1122.

Given the choise between customer service and downloads working, guess which I would choose ;)

linw: It certainly doesn't do this buffering for me. Just the same halt-run-halt-run-halt.... till you give up.

Pretty much the same for me, although I dont give up , I leave it 10 mins for a 2 min clip for it to fully load before playing it...about the same amount of time as dialup.....

Hit a low last night of 295kbps to LA! No wonder browsing was like walking through treacle.

I'm seriously about to give up but don't want to jump somewhere as bad. But surely it wouldn't be hard to beat this??? Xnet won't even reply to my email.

I was playing on Speedtest last night, and thought it was rather funny, I live Near Palmerston North and have FS/FS, now I did a test to Auckland and napier, and the test was close to full speed Great ....then i did a test t wellington and barely managed to get speeds above a 56k diap modem...odd, forget international, I am at the point where maybe a change of ISP is needed.

I dont mind if somethign is being worked on by Xnet, but the lack of information is whats killing everyone off nowadays in soo many different things.

All that would be required is an official post, not just some hearsay that there is a problem and what we are trying to do to fix it, I am not getting my Fullspeed service nor should I be paying for it, time for a complaint phonecall me thinks.

I just reached the stage that I felt that Xnet didn't care in the slightest.

They ignore any email which may be a complaint, don't bother telling us anything more than "we're working on it" (which I doubt by the patheticly long time to fix it), and then give me the "that's just how it is" excuse when I do get ahold of someone (other than one CSR who I won't name who actually tells it like it is)

So I finally switched. Now I can actually watch Youtube without waiting for it to buffer, can watch Joost, and can listen to a 128k stream!

Simple question a time frame of solving this problem ?
Or if Xnet will offer a different usage plan, when will this happen ?

When I called to discuss this issue I had to hold on the phone for 45mins (also a new low from what I know wxc used to be) I explained the issue etc to the support guy.
To be fair to him he did NOT try to hide the fact they had an issue with international traffic (this gave me hope) but would go no further than accpet they knew about it and were maybe, hopefully, sometime, possibly going to have a solution. When I asked him why I should continue to pay for my service at full price even though I cant get it, the reply was "Its not a guarrenteed service, we are within our terms stated in the contract" he then reminded me that wxc has no termination fees and a lot of users have excercised this right.

And thats about all he had to say about that....

Kudos to the support guy he was making the best of a bad situation, but you could tell he was almost reading from a pre-prepared company policy script on this issue.

I only recently re-joined wxc as I shifted house a couple of years ago to a rural exchange that did not have ADSL. When ADSL was enable recently I did not even blink I signed right up with WXC as my previous experience was so good compared to other braodband suppliers. My next step is researching a new provider (if there are any that are any better?) as I will change I think regardless.

My opinion I would share with others now of WXC?

I wish I'd found this thread before I signed up to Xnet. I would never have done it. This is absolutely crazy, international speeds are at 90 to 300kbps at peak times. At 6:30am it was at 2.7Mbps! I never had this problem with my old ISP, shifted for other reasons.

I haven't been on it a week, have yet to receive my first bill. I don't even know what my account number is and I'm investigating other options. Can anyone recommend a decent ISP?

I recomended Xnet to everyone - it appears I was wrong to do so.......Telstra cable - if your in their area

To what I have seen when issues come up at Xnet is that Xnet does not like to say too much about an issue in till they exactly know what the problem is and if it can be fixed, this has been shown here a few times in the past when issues have happened etc..

I have read on here & on GP Forums that snap aren’t bad.

But I think you will be hard pressed to find an ISP that does not have some sort of issue.

I just hope for Xnet sake that they make an official Announcement about this issue and what they are trying to do to fix this issue soon or they reputation as a good isp will go out of the window (if its not too late…, but I suspect it is a bit late…)

Geekzone is not the only place people have been complying about this issue, There are a lot of posts on GP Forums about this & there is a thread about this issue on PressF1.

It is 10PM and I'm downloading PowerDVD from download.com at a sustained 338kBps = 2700kbps = 2.64Mbps. Not everyone is having problems, but then again they might be trialling a fix on my account without me knowing it.

I have always seen fixes implemented on the first of the month, let's see what happens this week.

mines still crap.....tryed to watch a vid off youtube.....it played 2 seconds of it, the stopped for 30 seconds then played 2 seconds......

Niel, you've stolen my bandwidth! 10:30pm and I'm getting a reported speed of 210kbps to NY from speedtest

Maybe the rest of us should take up a collection...

A thought though, maybe you are downloading a local cached copy of PowerDVD.

Thanks for the heads up on the first of the month fix implementation, I'll keep that in mind
