I'm in desperate need of some help.  I have Xnet Fusion but do not have an IP phone system set up yet.

I've purchased a Digium "IAXy" s100, and I guess first of all, I need to know the following:

Can I use the IAXy "standalone" with my router/modem, or do I need to set up some sort of server on a seperate PC.  This is for a single home phone.

Thanks in advance, I know this is really a question that I should direct at digium or asterisk forums, but I thought I'd give the local scene a go first - you seem like a very clued up bunch!

thought I'd add some more details:

This is the gear I have available:
2 x Computer with ethernet
1 x Dlink g604t adsl router
1 x Digium S100I FXS interface
Asterisk NOW on CD
lots of cables

Would prefer to have the setup as simple as possible, as we desperately need a phone, but also desperately don't want to spend any more money!

I got frustrated with the whole thing today and clicked buy now on a trademe PAP2-NA, went to pick it up, and the guy warned me that it may not work with Xnet, and that he wouldn't refund..  I thought I'd better check it up, and lucky I did! :)

anyway thanks for any help you guys can give.

The Digium IAXy will not connect directly to WxC.
You would need to create an asterisk box to connect this to.
Buying a PAP2-T would have been easier and quicker to set up.
In saying this there are some good configurations on GZ of how to connect asterisk to WxC.

Buy a PAP2T at or
Sell the IAXy and the PAP2NA.
You should end up with more money than you have now ($1 reserve fire sale of your two boxes will more than cover the cost of the pap2na)

The digium device looks good though :) seems almost a downgrade to have to use a pap2.

I suppose you have it sorted by now if not I would quickly get trixbox up and running. I'd recommend any old pc for the task temporarily. A virtual machine is possible but nice to have it on its own hardware. It's about the only way I see you quickly getting up and running without forking out $$ lets you make more informed decisions later i.e. to go with asterisk for the flexibility or settle on an ATA such as the PAP2 for simplicity sake or even get an embedded pbx like the ones 3bit sell :)

I've currently got my PBX running on whats basically a hackable nas box but just running normal asterisk on that and then use Grandstream Handytone's that I got at DSE for $89 (sold as an Italk VOIP adapter) reset back to factory defaults for use on my cordless phones with asterisk.
