So my phone (which is on Spark) randomly stopped connecting to the network today. Contacted Spark who said it was blacklisted by Vodafone. Contacted them and they said their legal team requested for it to be blocked 2 days ago. I've had this phone for 6 months! I suspect someone has given them the wrong IMEI but Vodafone aren't any help and say the only person who can unblock it is the original person who reported it. So basically I'm left with a useless phone :(

I assume you have provided Vodafone with proof of purchase? Which also shows IMEI numbers on the receipt or packaging?

Looks like you're using stolen phone. Purchased second hand?

if not, I'd assume it will be pretty easy to remove blacklist providing original proof of purchase from store/online/etc.

Seems rather easy to have someones phone blacklisted, just give IMEI #, guess the PIN, done. Would think proof of ownership would be required as well.

Dont like an ex and know their PIN ? Get their phone blacklisted.

Only buy second-hand phone if it comes with proof of purchase.

Swype on iOS is detrimental to accurate typing. Apologies in advance.

Dang, I never asked for proof when I purchased my 520 from some dodgy character on here by name of @nate - even drove to a dodgy looking cafe to pick it up. ;)

So tell us where / who you obtained the iPhone from?

Just cause you are using the handset on Spark means nothing really

Some assumptions being made. Does it take over 6 months to process a request to block a stolen phone?

No but people can wait and report it stolen, or get one put on the account to pay off and then sell it and stop paying their bill.  I know spark will block phones that are on an account if the account is not paid, maybe vodafone does this as well.

Why not take it to a VodafoneNZ store so it can be returned to the owner

Or file a police report, letting them know the seller you bought it from could have stolen it.
