Disrespective:

My 200/20 is a bit sketchy tonight.

Mine kept hanging last night so I tried power-cycling the modem and ended up with no internet until this morning (I lodged a fault around 8pm, and it came back up around 9).

Oh well, it gave me another couple of chances to repeat my request for a static IP :)

Install happened today. Pretty quick. In and out in about 20 minutes.

Not set up to maximize speed, but rather to fit in with existing setup (bit of an Apple fanboy house).

Have the Vodafone box set up with wifi turned off and then have Apple Airport Extreme connected to that wired and using DHCP.

@mhb you won't get the best speed using Airport Extremes in router mode - best disable DHCP on it and use the HG669's DHCP server and the Airport Extreme only as an AP / switch.

jimbob79: Two of my friends have upgrading to FibreX and they are getting the upgrade for only $59.99 per month. Is this true for everybody who are pre-exising customers. I'm feeling stupid now for moving over to BigPipe UFB.

That's because they're getting 50% discount for 6 months. It won't be that cost forever :)

This comment intrigued me, and I started looking around to try and best understand it.

Of course google is chock full of comments about the performance of this hardware when connected to gigabit internet connections - ie it sucks. Best performance quotes I've read include around 500mbps in bridge mode, and about 200-300 when acting as router as well.

Great for fast ethernet connections (100mbps) and small networks, but not anything else.

Just got it installed this morning, you can see the difference in the results below via SpeedTest. Overall I'm happy, the cost should be either the same or $10 cheaper than what we were paying so that's awesome. Speeds are certainly less consistent than the previous 100/10 plan that I was on (where if I got 12MB/sec, it would generally stay pretty consistent), but I haven't investigated why that is yet (as in, whether the router has trouble keeping consistent speeds, or something else).

Real-world usecases (via the HG659 that was installed, network path is PC -> HG659 -> TC4400VDF, connected at 1Gbit all the way):

  • 24MB/sec download of a game via Steam (both with and without the Download Region forced to NZ)
  • 8MB/sec download of a ~100MB video from YouTube's CDN
  • 25-30MB/sec download of a 4GB VM from modern.ie (https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/)
  • Max of 35MB/sec, average of 15MB/sec download of Debian images from ftp.iinet.net.au

Any other requests?

Supposedly my static IP has been assigned. Will find out tonight if it has been assigned to my account and then see if it sticks around!

good luck, mine was "properly" set up yesterday after 3 or 4 previous calls and last night about the same time my lease usually renews i lost the internet. hg695 was still trying to connect this morning. vf help desk thinks i need to manually configure my static ip on the hg695. funny thing is i can ping my assigned static address, the help desk was telling me the same number also gets assigned to the technicolor?!? anyone have a manual for the technicolor?

anyway hopefully get it sorted once i get home.

How are you guys finding out what your assigned Static IP is? I asked for one, and while it has changed a few times during reboots, it's not changed for the last day (no reboots) so I set up a few services with the new IP... I don't really want to do it all again if I can help it, I just figured it'd be locked in by now...

I asked what it was while i was on the phone getting it sorted.

my dynamic addresses were usually in the range 118.92.x.x but my static is sposed to be 203.173.247.x. no idea if different parts of the country are assigned different ranges.

Has anyone that ordered one had success with the Static IP yet? They can't even tell me what mine is meant to be at the moment, a pain for updating filters!

Speed seems a bit inconsistent compared to the 100Mbps but I'm wondering if my router (RT-AC68U) is to blame a little. Seeing high CPU spikes on it.

Speedtest I got so far - after removing my AV's (Sophos) web scanning feature.

Vodafone - WLG

Nice ping!

Citylink - WLG

Included for the chuckles - someone needs to prod them about that I think... is impacting the mirrors they host too.

Sydney - 'Yes' Optus

That's pretty good.

For what it's worth, I'm using the HTML5 version of speedtest to avoid the flash overhead - beta.speedtest.net

My Static has been ok since it was fixed on Sunday. Still having to reboot at least once a day. I am not losing the connection fully just the Upload speed locks to 30mbps and it gets laggy.

Has anyone else got TrueNet hooked up to it? I have some interesting reports coming back. Lets just say they are not good.
