adventdesigns: There are many programs out there that moniter your usage, I am using netlimiter (free version) for now to moniter my traffic until a fix for the xnet moniter is out.

Its also not had to keep a general idea of how much you've downloaded.

I know this already...

Sure we can do it ourselves with 3rd party programs, but what you record in your 3rd party monitor software, may not be the same as what xnet records, and its what xnet records that will be charged for...hence the likely chance of possible disputes...
But if the user is using xnets monitor sofftware, then there can be no dispute, as the customner will be able to see when and what data they will be charged for (as recorded by xnet themselves).

I know its coming, as Maverick and others have said already, so hopefully wont be an issue, but my point is that users are jumping into the dark, qand could be taking a little risk by using the plan now without those accurate records and monitoring.

Here is the first look of what it will look like, there is more eye candy to come with this as well which I believe you will love, and this is the only the first cut,

Also our Development Guys would be interested in knowing if there are users out there interested in a cross platform usage meter, Linux, Mac (cough cough....and no Josh don't Jump on here and say you want one we already know you MAC fan boy Wink )

WOW - thats awesome guys, great work. If you were to develop the app in .net it would be completly cross platform... there is a framework for linux/mac called mono which allow .net exes to run.

That and, there is a four computer network running on our connection, so the effort of bothering to monitor all of them individually - when two run linux and two run windows - is simply more than it is worth.

maverick: Just for you TheBartender, and I'm predicting your predictions are wrong btw Wink

Yes, I hope i am wrong...I will be glad to proved wrong.
But I also hope that me being vocal with my concerns, will bring attention to this possible issue before it becomes an issue.

maverick: ...so our accounting is fine the only delay was the updated usage meter which was a few days behind but we do expect to have it available by the end of the day,

What about the online accounts - traffic accounting section?
Does that now include more detailed reports, other than the current basic monthly grapth?
There needs to be daily reports (broken up hourly) available through there, so a user can view exactly not just how much they will be charged or how much they have used, but exactly the time of day the data was used (as recorded by xnet)...so to 'verfiy' whatever extra charges they may recieve without there being a surprise or need to dispute.

maverick: Here is the first look of what it will look like, there is more eye candy to come with this as well which I believe you will love, and this is the only the first cut,

So TheBartender does this meet your needs ? Smile

It does not have Peak and Off-Peak totals....
Peak = 59.95GB
Off-Peak = 23.58GB

That may seem small and pedantic, but for someone on a plan, who is watchin the totals of used data during such periods closely, there should be no confusion...the totals should be as easy to read and easily found.

Another vote for an OSX monitor.

I am a soon to be customer (Waiting for wag54gp2 to arrive), so I can't confirm this would be usable - but OSX Leopard users may possibly  be able to use the safari webclip->widget over the xnet usage webpage. I have never actually seen the xnet usage page, so this may not be practial though, and login issues may be annoying.

First look, First Cut, First Draft " there is more eye candy to come with this as well which I believe you will love, and this is the only the first cut",

We will be giving as much detail as possible and we will adjust where it is needed, possibly you may need to try it first and then see. appreciate your concerns but I think we are kind of good at traffic accounting, I don't think you will see or have seen any issues or complaints with data usage or accounting here.

I think that I will leave the sneak previews alone from now on.

I'm on linux but Firefox plugin is the one I use. You don't need it constantly in the system tray when you have a browser open 80% of the time anyway.

Besides TheBartender's concerns are only an issue if you absolutely murder your connection 24/7,  this month it will be difficult to break 75GB off peak.   I am sure around the time next month rolls over Xnet will have something up to monitor traffic.

Please dont stop sneak previews on my account of being critical...

I am an xnet supporter and current customer...I am just being oedantic in knowing what I would want/need, for this plan to work for me.

Ya doing a great job Maverick, I do appreciate it, honestly.

Click on mavs name, then click on email, here email is actually a pm.

For anyone else, the new xml feed is live (if you know where to find it - its pretty obvious). Mav there is an error in it tho, the download link inside the xml (i mean who/what ever uses that anyway, points at version 1.2, not even version 1.3 which is the current public one)

I would also like to se an OS X one :)

I currently use a php script I wrote that works alongside my flat's usage software to display what our software says we have used against xnet's records, and this works quite nicely. (and hopefully is legal :) )

hi Mav:

Yes, a Mac version of the monitor would be great! :)

I currently have to use the firefox version of the monitor on my Macs, but it would be nice to have a Mac "desktop" version so I could use Safari instead..!

Thanks!

Embarassed...sorry ladies and Gent's I can't release the usage monitor even for those who kindly offered to trial it over the weekend, we found a issue we just can't quite correct at present so we can't let anyone use it yet.....Embarassed
