Hi all.

I have a tiny question regarding this new torrent plan.

I am currently on the river plan with a 20gb cap.  Now, if I switch over to the torrent plan within this week, will I be charged the $34 base plan again on my monthly account?

so if my bill this month is $50, if I switch to the torrent plan, will I be charged the extra $34?

thanks to whoever that can help me.

Actually not 100% sure, I think it will be pro-rata for the month, best bet is to phone the sales desk in the morning unless I find out and psot something first.

I am on flood plan with 30 Gig cap.
This month usage already up ~20 Gig.

If I changed over now, is my used 20 Gig be charged $1.54 or the $1.02?

How one distingushed the 20 Gig not used on off peak that is if xnet decided the torrent rate!

All I can say is WOW! I switched across to the new Torrent plan, and it's peak time, and my connection for the first time since I got it going a year ago is running at full sync speed to the US.

It's like a rocket ship!!!

I guess I owe everyone hopping into off peak time :-)

So if we switch over to the Torrent plan, does that mean our connection is going to go faster during peak time ??
I'm on fusion and right now at 9.45pm its 1200kbps down and 756kbps up doing a speedtest to xnet..

doing a speedtest to LA in the USA is:
545 down and 252 up

Nothing much has changed here.. I am in Hamilton and my exchange is Hamilton East..

Slow speed to XNet is either a faulty port at the exchange, a fault in your wiring/modem, or your exchange is congested.  Suggest you log a fault with XNet as they can do a lot of testing from their end.

Usually I would say NO, but I have experienced exactly this, and am unsure if it's a coincidence or if it does indeed depend what plan you are on.

My maximum through to the XNET Auckland Speedtest site has been 4.5 Megabits, I am on a cabinet (ADSL1, Sync 6.5 Megabits) in Parnell, I can actually see the XNET building/datacentre on the skyline from here :-)

I thought it was my backhaul that was limiting my speed to XNET from the cabinet, but tonight I'm getting ~6.5 to the US for the first time ever on my home connection.

I made a note in the international speed issues thread which is now 28 odd pages long that using different usernames for the ADSL Connection within minutes of each other on the same connection radically altered the performance I was getting internationally.

To be honest, I don't really care what the answer is, simply that I now have the fastest connection I have ever had in my flat.

Anyways, back to youtube :-)

The fact so many people are jumping onto this plan without a updated usage monitor amazes me...

Without actual accurate records, recording what time of the day data was downloaded, and a real time usage monitor to support that/reassure the user, there is no way to know or prove when the said data was consumed.

I am predicting there will be disputes over this, as people recieve unexpected large bills, having being charged the extra rate, for using data outside offpeak hours.

Great plan, but early adopters are going to be nothing more than beta testers who may go through some angusih before being happy with this service/plan...

I wont touch this plan until xnet offer the ability to allow me to accuratley monitor my usage in real time, and have access to online records recording the exact hours of the day said data was used, so that there can be no disputing the charges or times the data was used.

The torrent Plan is just a billing option, you are not changing Plans as such you will still be on River . It will just mean your usage charges will change from the date you made the change and will occur from that date onwards (min 30 days)

There are many programs out there that moniter your usage, I am using netlimiter (free version) for now to moniter my traffic until a fix for the xnet moniter is out.

Its also not had to keep a general idea of how much you've downloaded.

Just for you TheBartender, and I'm predicting your predictions are wrong btw Wink, And I think Betatesters is a bit harsh that honor belongs to a select and harassed few, we were conscious of the fact that people wanted this and stating we would have it available mid month added self imposed time constraints,so our accounting is fine the only delay was the updated usage meter which was a few days behind but we do expect to have it available by the end of the day,

Here is the first look of what it will look like, there is more eye candy to come with this as well which I believe you will love, and this is the only the first cut,

So TheBartender does this meet your needs ? Smile

Also our Development Guys would be interested in knowing if there are users out there interested in a cross platform usage meter, Linux, Mac (cough cough....and no Josh don't Jump on here and say you want one we already know you MAC fan boy Wink )

i wonder how hard it would be to make a console-based usage moitor ;) one for PS3 would be great, given the amount of time my house spends online gaming/DL PSN content....

i suppose a mac one would be nice, for when i can pry myself away from GTA4 long enough...

Yes. Yes. Yes. I use the firefox extension at the moment, but if you released a usage monitor for linux that would be great.
