So we're no closer to establishing if existing Red+ Lite customers will automatically get 10GB or will need to change plans to the new Red+ Lite to get it?

I think we are pretty close, we have the answer! It's a no, it wont be automatic because the old Red + Lite 4GB plans are going to be retired.

Also I just got a text from Vodafone giving me a link to change to the Red + Lite plan with 10GB! I'm already on the Red + Lite 4GB plan

On the website detailing the new plans https://www.vodafone.co.nz/pay-monthly/ the Advantage and Lite plans Data shows as “NZ Data” while the Essential shows as just “Data”.

Under “Important things to know” you find the following statement for Lite & Essentials, but not for Advantage :- The special Data Test Drive data allowance is for use in New Zealand only. Only your plan's data can be used for roaming and normal roaming data charges will apply.

This is very confusing, is the Lite plan data NZ only or not? A CSR assures me it is not NZ only but was unaware of the wording on the website and was going to pass feedback on. She also had no idea what the “limited time” was all about as they had been told it was permanent.

As the website seemed to change hourly last week it’s hard to have confidence in what you are reading is correct or not? Is it going to change again tomorrow?

Was also told my existing discount could not be transferred to the upgraded plan.

I was also told my discount could not be transferred to the new plan, I was on Red + Lite 4GB plan with a $20 discount, the most retentions could offer me for the new 10GB Red + Lite plan was $10

I'm on the Red+ Essentials and was wondering whether the extra data would be added automatically after receiving a text from Vodafone last week. My plan rolled over on Friday and since I saw no added data over the weekend I called them about 10 minutes ago. It was a painless process. Customer support answered and I got transferred a couple of times but it only took minutes to confirm the data would be added.

I did ask about the 'limited time' and was told that the data was for the life of the plan but it sounds like a limited time frame for existing customers to transfer to the upgraded plans from what the rep said.

Thanks Mike for the confirmation.

I went in and signed up early this afternoon and, when I asked about the 'limited time' comment on the web site I was told that the plans might change if they have to introduce something better to beat the competition again in the future. That's a good way to put a positive spin on it!

Anyway, the setup was all really smooth and I am now up and running. I just wish Vodafone would deal with their broken usage meter that they don't seem to be able to fix.

I feel sorry for all those people that signup to 24 month contracts piror to the plan changes occurring as none of them will see any of extra data that those signing up to day get. I'm not referring to retention ability to add the temporary 5 gig bonus data for 24 months . I'm referring to base plans data ie old red+ super was 15 gigs new plan is 20 gigs  . If try you just get slammed with earlier termination fees . Seems Vodafone after seeing many changes over past 10 or so years is now changing the way the introduce better deals to customers. I might have consider moving else were only have $320 + account and home broadband with them

After a text today to all my mobiles saying they should upgrade their plans to get access to more data, I decided to go in store to find out how I can get more data for my 'in-contract' Red Super plans.

Because I have two 24 month Red Super plans expiring in March the store could not change these to a 20GB plan without resigning and ETCs.

However they gave me the 'Vodafone retentions' phone number, and they did it within 5 minutes.

All they did was add a bonus 5GB to each of my plans. This bonus expires in 12 months.

My other Red Super open term was converted by the store to the 22GB plan, very painless. I also got two extra data sims on the open term plan for free (data sharers are free on open term at the moment).

I think the Red plans 'data bonus' is for a limited time to allow customers like me to get extra data without changing plans.

I bet in 3-4 months the limited time wording will be removed along with the ability for VF to add a 5GB bonus to existing accounts. Once the 'limited time' wording is removed, new permanent plans will come into effect.

My 2 cents.

I've been with VF for about 8 years and every time they've increased data on new plans, they've increased it in the existing versions of the same plan to match as far as I can recall.

Is that not happening this time?
