Hi everyone! I have just bought a new iPhone x on a Vodafone plan. I am wondering if I should get the Vodafone insurance or put the iPhone x on my contents insurance? I rent an apartment in Auckland Central. When readin the Vodafone insurance, it says that my phone is lost or stolen they will replace is with a refurbished model the same or similar to the original. I am worried that if I loose my phone or whatever, that they will replace it with a different model.

Does anyone have experience of putting their iPhone on contents insurance?

VF insurance will replace with exact model as the one you have, except refurbished.

Contents insurance.. well it all depends on what your excess is and what your t&c's in your contract are and if you are getting a no claims bonus and willing to lose that if you claim.

Have you looked into getting Apple care?

Hello, thanks for your reply.

This is what is says on the Vodafone website -

Lost or stolen mobiles will be repaired or replaced at our option with a refurbished mobile or with the same or a similarly featured Vodafone approved model. If your mobile sustains damage, we will:
Your SIM card must be in use inserted in your phone at the time of the incident
First attempt to repair it with new or refurbished parts, if it is economically viable for us to do so
Where your mobile can't be repaired we will, at our option:
Replace your mobile with a refurbished mobile of the same or similar specification, or
Where a refurbished mobile is not available, replace it with a new Vodafone approved mobile of the same or similar specification.
Different excesses apply based on whether we repair or replace your phone with a refurbished or new mobile. These differences are detailed below.


Do you think this means I will get the exact same model as I have?

Please note PhoneInsure had a max of $1800, so if you have the 256gb version, you'll still have to find the extra $300.

Guessing they didn't think at the time it was introduced, that a phone would ever get up over $1800!

Hi vodafone, My phone is the 64gb one.

If I get Vodafone insurance and my phone is lost or stolen, will it be replaced with an iPhone x?

Look after your phone, it’s not hard - no need for insurance.

No that's right but you can then use contents insurance

VF terms seem too ambiguous with what sort of replacement you'll get.

True. Does anyone have experience using contents insurance for iPads, iPhones, MacBooks etc.?

I have just emailed AMI to see what they think.

I believe 64gb should be fine, check the value of phone

We have claimed on iPads with Ami no problem.
One was completely lost, no idea where it went, we had a stand down of two weeks to see if it turned up and then they replaced it with the current model (which was the next generation). We had the box as proof of purchase.

Insurance is not only for breakage, and sometimes accidents happen that are out of our control, it's not that hard.

For a $1000++ phone , surely crazy not to insure something of that value ?
