Kia ora!

I am new to New Zealand and will be moving to Island bay on Sunday. I need some advice on Vodafone fibreX offering particularly in island bay parade. Is it any good? Cheers

Welcome aboard.. I don't believe it's as bad as it used to be, but given how bad it used to be that may not be saying much.  That said, most/all of Island Bay isn't getting Fibre (of the proper sort, not the Vodafone marketing hype sort) for another 2 years, so it may be the best you can get for awhile.

I have been on Vodafone HFC cable (now sold as "FibreX") in Island Bay for 5 years.

As a TrueNet volunteer I have automated hourly speed test results recorded for every day of the past 4 years.

Cable/FibreX has been notorious for poor peak-hour performance, although this has partially improved this year.

Here are my own Time of Day (ToD) results for the past week:

This is for a 200/20 Mbps "FibreX" connection.

Wellington ToD:

Auckland ToD:

Sydney ToD:

As already stated, there will be no "real" fibre in Island Bay until December 2019.

Despite its faults, "FibreX" still out-performs VDSL at my address.
