Had to share this, and while not so much annoyed, more amused by the whole process.

 

Received the letter today from Vodafone about the move of landline to VOIP. Should clarify we have land-line, VDSL and Sky-TV.

 

Checked the website to see if my Fritz!Box could be used or I needed to get a replacement Vodafone device. The original Vodafone modem died years ago.

 

You need to use either a white Vodafone HG659 wireless modem or a dark grey Vodafone Ultra Hub modem. If you don't have one of these modems, call us on 0800 891 740 and we'll send one out to you.

 

So I rang the 0800 number. First operator helpful but needed to forward me to someone else. Second operator was also helpful, but this is where the fun begins.

 

To get the replacement modem, for the change to service that is being forced on me, I needed to sign up to a 24 month contract. Resistant to any sign contract that involves SKYTV without a significant sweetener from SKY.

 

Operator said she could do us a better deal than we had. Went through all the options like checking our sky subscription was accurate, it was. Was then told best mates was no longer free. Ended up the first "better deal" would cost us an extra $6. Suggested if I had a Vodafone on account mobile we could save $10. Informed her that my current mobile is Spark as it is frequently used in an area that has poor/no Vodafone coverage.

 

Said she could probably do a better deal and put me on hold. End result was $40 improvement which I said I would need to think about.

 

Personally, I'd rather not of even been told about the $40 saving, just wanted no contract and a modem! I get why they want me to sign up to the contract. I could jump ship and take their modem with me. I have only been with Vodafone for the last 8 years in this house and 10 years in the previous house.

 

Job before the end of the week is to find someone else to provide our VDSL and tell Sky we are cancelling. This has been the push I have needed say good-bye to a land-line. Thanks Vodafone.

Just tell them you already have a VoIP capable unit and you just need the settings and set it up yourself.

Tried that. You will need to contact the manufacturer of your modem... which was a crock because my understanding is, and I might be wrong but, I need the SIP settings.

 

And from the Vodafone website....We don't give out our SIP settings for third party routers, you may need to just use your router as a wireless access point.

I'm waiting to get this letter. The two fingered salute will be forthcoming as I object to paying for vmail, call waiting, caller ID etc when I can get these features as part of the deal at 2Talk. The support people at Vfone seem to be utterly clueless when trying to get info on this VOIP upgrade. 2Talk here I come even though I will have to supply my own ATA. I note various questions  from irate customers concerning the VOIP upgrade have gone conveniently unanswered in the vfone community forums.

I was told by my alarm company that the forced move has wreaked havoc with many peoples monitored alarms (which all use pots voice to work), and they were backlogged responding to the change.

No elaboration on what the response was - I expect they are selling lots of GPRS monitoring modules, which I was told adamantly would be around for the next 10 years - but as expected, the normal arrogant VF approach to migrating customers has shone through.

VF are a joke when it comes to SIP.

We have had more than a couple of customers get sucked by their sales people with the only thing they can sell is pricing. The service itself is just plain useless.

One in particular had a brand new IP PBX. UFB and SIP trunk with 4 channels. VF came in and sold the their Easy office bullocks which if course is just a single analogue line off the vf router. the second port costs more to activate... and then being analogue they needed an interface card to connect their IP PBX. and then, because ATA's and PBXs are generally a bad idea, things didn't work properly like the voicemail etc.

I have not seen this letter yet but vodafone have omitted to mention that customers in existing contracts cannot be forced to move to VOIP.

Hi all,

 

just to confirm, if you are an existing VF cust being migrated to Voip we can provide a modem with no contract if you need one. Sorry whoever the agents are that dealt with the OP they seem to be confused about the process, ill talk to our team leaders to get the message through.

Perhaps worth clarifying:

 

1. What happens if you are a VF customer, using a Spark wholesaled Voice service 

 

2. What happens if you are VF customer, using the TelstraClear cable network in Wellington Kapit and Christchurch

 

3. What happens in either case if you have an alarm monitored via classic dial-out style (not GPRS or IP monitoring) in either (1) or (2)

 

4. What replacement kit is available without charge or additional contract

 

 

 

Because the messaging is inconsistent from contact centre from letters from peoples individual experience

Wont use Vodafone for land line no matter what not today not tomorrow never as they still using their price structure base on pot services . SIP is ip generated service created by a computer server doesn't cost extra to have caller id voice mail etc etc as just tick box items within SIP server itself . Seems Vodafone wants to charge more for these service what a joke. O the stupid thing they expect is to use their junky modems to do this with. Cant plug it into your network with more one device as it crashes and it many firmware updates don't fix the issues  see other geek zone posting to validate his. End of day Vodafone needs to wake up to fact that  their are better 3rd party routers out there that do what there can do without requirement of many firmware updates . From consumer point a view this must use there modem is purely  not acceptable in his day n age . Hopefully his might been seen by other Vodafone reps and something can be done about but I'm guessing it fall on death ear like so many other that have voice their views here in past .

I haven't got the letter saying that Vodafone want to move me to VOIP, but I'm expecting it soon.

 

What I did get, however, was a letter at the end of November advising me that Vodafone wanted to move me from ADSL to VDSL. The letter said I'd receive a Vodafone Ultra Hub and I just had to plug it in and I would be automatically moved to VDSL. Sounded easy enough, except that it's now nearly two and a half months later and I'm still waiting to be moved. The Ultra Hub says it's on ADSL.

 

Messages in the Vodafone Community Forum have received "Just PM me your account number and we'll get it sorted" replies from VF staff, which I've done a couple of times, but nothing has happened. So far I've avoided ringing the help line as I don't want to sit on hold for ages, but I may be forced to.

Long as your still on ADSL, you won't.

 

They are only doing the move for VDSL+ thusfar.

 

 

 

My question would be, has there been a logical move to segment subpar VDSL upload connections...
