MikeGayner:

Jesus you guys are pathetic. You think anyone is going to take you seriously? “OMG Vodafone has priced me out of getting the phone I want even though I REALLY REALLY want it!”. I cant have the house, or car or clothes I really want either, but I don’t march down Queen street over that. Your pathetic, childish protest cheapens the principle of protesting all together.

Mike, I understand where you're coming from. However, if you are here just to bash the idea, I suggest you take your comments elsewhere.

No-one is forcing you to do this, and this is about something bigger than just "Ooo iphone, the cost is so big."
Vodafone have been raping us for years. And its time we stood up. Hell, if we ran by your comment everytime someone chose to start a protest, we'd have no protest what-so-ever. Because there are always people like you who critisize the idea.

EDIT: and as amad said, it's a bit of fun, but at the same time letting us people who care about money protest against us being legally robbed blind :)
because I bet you have a vodafone mobile, or if not, you at least have Telecom.

You guys are pretty sad. It is only a fashion item! It is only a phone!

And compared to what I have already, it is not a very good one either.

I would have been tempted to downgrade in order to be seen as one of the "egotistical chosen few", but I can find a lot more to do with my (hard earned) cash. My money goes to MySkyHDMi anyday. At least my family can enjoy it and I save a few $$$ along the way.

I don't need to demonstrate in person. I will demonstrate with my wallet - no value = no purchase (AND I will be wrapped up in bed alongside my beautiful partner as you guys TRY IN VAIN to get your silly point across).

It is only a phone - no more, no less.

There are a thousand good reasons to protest. The price of a cellphone is not one of them. You know why? Because you're 100% free to not buy the phone. Or even buy a phone from the competition. That you REALLY want it doesn't make your justifaction any better.

We don't have to justify it to you by any means.
But you missed what has been said. Its NOT only about the iphone. Its about the PRICES of the contracts/plans.

Guys leave the personal attacks out of this!

Attack the idea if you wish, make it personal, and you will make my day!

Fair point.\
But as I said before, its not only about the iphone. Not my reasoning behind this anyways.

Its about the COST. Not the phone.

God, what have I started? First, chill out everyone. This was just meant as a joke, but if people are keen i'll go ahead with it - i'm sure it'll be fun. Second, i'm Libertarian and would support Vodafone charging whatever they want for their product and service. That doesn't mean I sacrifice my right to complain about the price. The market IS the people, and by complaining we demonstrate that the demand isn't as high as they think it is, and that therefore perhaps they should reconsider the price.

Perfectly put.

I will be coming to the CBD at around that time, anyways (gaming on Thursday nights -- woohoo! Go Warcraft 3!) so I'll stop by the Queen street store to check it out and walk out without a phone.

Unless I get the call from our VF account manager to reply about my question on how much the phone is going to be if I re-sign my contract, in which case I might walk out with a phone.

Hi Peter.

I look forward to seeing you on TV IF YOU ARE SERIOUS. And I will have a good laugh at you as I lie in bed and watch the morning news. Go for it - I dare you. Put your money where your mouth is because VF would expect you NOT to.

And if you pull it off and VF change their pricing model I will be the first one to buy you a drink and apologise. Hell, I will even pay you to fly down here to Wellington 1st class to buy you that drink!

Go on - I dare you. Put your money where your mouth is. Vodafone have!

So... much... anger...

Back to topic:
I find it a good exercise on going there and letting them know that you COULD buy the phone, but just WON'T because they are completely off the mark. Better to complain in person than to a CSR on the phone. Usually more effective, too.
