was just wondering if anyone else on TCL Cable could reach "http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation"
or even just "http://www.escapistmagazine.com" without any trouble?

I have 3 computers at home that cant get there although i can use a web based proxy to get to the site but cant watch the vids through it.

My work pc goes there fine but im in enough trouble as it is with internet usage without watching gaming videos

If it is just with TCL, is there anything i can do or anything TCL can do or am i just going to have to use a friends computer?

I have thesame problem (have had for months) - although sometimes it loads, not often, and it seems to be random.

A friend of mine, also in Chch on Cable has the same problems.

203.97.33.1 and 203.97.37.1
Ha ha, after waiting an hour to get through to a tech he told me to use these numbers and it worked straight away.
Now they hardly work if at all.

Could try OpenDNS:

  • 208.67.222.222 (resolver1.opendns.com)
  • 208.67.220.220 (resolver2.opendns.com)

Is there any downside to using open DNS instead of a telstra/clear one?
Is it slower, or riskier etc etc??

This seems to be a good summary:

http://www.hanselman.com/blog/OpenDNS.aspx

The response time will be slightly slower - hosted in the States instead of NZ.

openDNS didnt work for me, the clear DNS numbers made the page load more often than not but takes a while and still cant watch the videos.

Is there anything else that can cause this?
I remember a while back that one site i was trying to sign up to wouldnt let me because of
my IP, i cant remember what it said but in short, it said it was bad...

I might as well join in. I too can't access escapistmagazine.com or warcry.com (its host). Playing around with DNS servers isn't helping much (must be some caching going on, flushdns doesn't help, giving up). Either way, it's a workaround at best. There's obviously something wrong with TelstraClear's (Paradise's?) DNS server. How on earth did they manage that? And why haven't they acknowledged it?

The guy that maintains the warcry servers posted over on GP forums about getting affected persons to do a trace route to his server. Not sure why.

Yeah, tracert isn't going to reveal anything. It works as expected when using the warcry.com IP (216.27.11.196). Of course, tracert-ing "www.warcry.com" doesn't work, which is basically the issue in the first place.
