After many problems associated with my WRTP54g my wife has had enough of VOIP. I convinced her that an equipment upgrade would solve our woes.
So I purchase the WRP400, this has worked for the most part great. But the other night during a call, after about 15 - 20 min the caller couldn't hear our end of the line. This lasted about 20 seconds then it went back to normal. Sounds like a small thing but my wife has had enough and wants a normal landline.
What is the cause of this? Can it be fixed?
This was a common fault when we had the WRTP54g.
I am on Telstra Cable in Wellington area, they have just finished all their upgrades to the service so I wouldn't expect any outages with them.

Where are you in wellington?

Some of us have been having micro outages, and TCL did have issues with their services in Wellington lastnight.

Your problem sounds just too familiar. Please take a look at my thread posted: Ongoing problem with VFX

I have done some experiments and found that the frequency of the loss of sound is dependent on the DHCP lease time interval set in my modem. FYI I got a Linksys AM300 for modem and WRP400 as my router. I can't tell whether it is the AM300 or the WRP400 playing up, but Nicholas at Xnet is forwarding my results to their Operations manager as they are investigating a few issues with this very modem.

I advice you to contact Xnet about your issue as it will no doubt help with the investigation and tracing of the fault.

Like you, my partner is on the verge of losing her patience with the frequent loss of sound and disconnection during calls, it'll be a shame if I have to change back to Telecom's analogue lines. I have also put my parent's broadband installation on hold while waiting to know more about the cause of these issues.

I have determined that the problems fall on the shoddy service provided by Telstra Clear. It seems to be a friequent problem that the upload speed of my connection drops to about 40kbps, not even close to the 2000kbps that I am paying good money for.
Who voted Telstra Clear best ISP?
Seems like a vote engineered by G.W.Bush.
