I have a Billion 7401VGP and im wondering if anyone has the same or similar router and can give me a hand with the settings.

i was having pretty average speeds (3Mbps) and thought it may of had something to do with the modem settings. i did a bit of a google to find some settings. and the settings i found where from someone in NZ on xnet using a billion router.

i dont know if its the new settings or a coincidence but now my speeds are very slow (200kbs).

i have also been trying to get the firewall setup but everytime i do i cant acess the internet at all

Those settings seem to be ok to my eyes.

When you see those speeds, what happens if you reset the router ? Do they increase/decrease ?
With all the rain lately, maybe your lines are a bit wet which causes all sorts of fun, especially if theres a break in them somewhere.

I was getting shocking speeds for quite some time and after 2 years, 5 techs, 4 routers later, one of the techs found it was a fault at the exchange (dodgy wiring).  Since he fixed that wiring, Ive had 5.5mbps+ ever since.

Do you know how far from the excahnge you are ?

the phone has been real "crackly" after the storm and the modem started losing sync all the time again (did it approx 5months ago) telecom sent a tech out and said he found some faults and the phone is much better but it still cracks abit but no where near as bad as before. the modem is still losing sync from time to time but not as much as before.

after making the thread i did a few more speedtests and i got some good speeds but some averge speeds.

i think i will give it a bit to let the weather sort its self out and let repairs be made. if its still doing it i will call tech support.

If youre paying line rental and maintenance  then dont wait for the weather, start screaming at your line provider. Laughing
It took me 2 years to get my problem sorted once and for all.... might as well start the ball rolling. And fingers crossed this time you get a tech who knows what theyre doing.

Wow! Someone else with the same modem / router.

For comparison, my stats are:
SNR(downstream) = 26.5dB ; SNR (upstream) = 12.0dB
Line Attenuation (downstream) = 13dB ; (upstream) = 8.5dB

FWIW, I've set my ADSL as follows:
Connect Mode: AnnexM2+, auto fallback
Modulation: G.Dmt.BisPlusAuto
Tx Attenuation: Bis_0DB

I'm synching at:
Upstream: 938500
Downstream: 7616500

To me, it looks like your line stats are poor - i.e. low SNR on the line with high attenuation and substandard sync speeds.

Further, my Annex Type is listed as ADSL2A, whereas yours is listed as AnnexA - not sure whether this could be significant though?

thanks for that i just changed my conecton mode to "ADSL2+, auto-fallback" the closest i had to "AnnexM2+, auto fallback"
that automaticly changed the modulation to "G.Dmt.BisPlusAuto"

my annex type is now listed as ADSL2A. but im in Nelson we wont get adsl2+ for a few years.

oddly enough when i was in aus on adsl2 i got the exact same SNR and Attenuation, and pretty much the same max download speed about 4-5MBps just my upload was about 900kbps.

the phone as gotten worse again so have got the service man coming to have another look tomorrow. i have a mate that works for place that repairs the lines( name slips my mind at the moment) 1.2 thinking about seeing if he can come and look at it.

edit:

the phone fixing man came today found another fault. was good for a bit but is now crap again. internet speeds are rubbish still aswell. 1-2mbit usualy 4-5 mbit.

but im only ever online at peak times i will give it a test to see what its like later tonite. if its still below par i will call xnet
