I think the answer is that Vodafone don't regularly read these forums, and that the call centre is not too good either.

I think some are still not sure of the question, so might want to clarify that before deciding this is the answer.

My Dad, a long-time HFC cable TV & internet customer has a failing, six year old, router/ATA combo.  Bizzarely it is supplied by Vodafone, but supplied by the bit that used to be WorldXChange, not the bit that sells residential HFC broadband.

If he was a new customer he'd have been given a new, supported, "can call the 0800 number when it breaks and people will be helpful" router/modem/etc.

For some reason he doesn't have one.  He needs one.  I can't work out how to get Vodafone to give him one, without flying to Wellington and walking into a shop.  The Vodafone CSR I spoke to on the phone couldn't even find his broadband account - going to a shop and signing up for a new connection or contract was their suggested solution.

I would hope someone with an ounce of compassion at Vodafone might be able to say .........

The problem is that criminals and fraudsters can come up with far better stories than yours to elicit compassion.

I get it though.... but blame the criminals and bad people that make strict authorisation protocols necessary .

In the old days I'd have called up one of my old uni friends who worked at TelstraClear.

Thankfully, in the mean time

(1) someone's PMed me!

(2) my remote hands have arrived, the internet has now mysteriously started working.  I've asked them to install a cheapie tp-link router from PbTech anyway.

(3) Hopefully I'll be in Wellington next week and can disentangle some of the setup.
