I have heard that 3G / WCDMA is going to be added to the RCG sites due to the issue of so many end users will not have access to voice calling

Why is this so easy that Spark can seemingly roll it out nationwide by flicking a switch, yet it will take Vodafone quite a few more months to have this nation-wide?

Different risk profiles taken is all.

I heavily suspect Vodafone did it to isolate problem areas.
Spark opted for a staggered rollout of users (but network wide) so it was managed that way.

Apple pushing volte with Ios13 speed up the rollout a tad is all as it activated the automatic provisioning.

In all honesty as the business owner for sparks assure platform I totally get the choice Vodafone took.

I hope they plan on using 900mhz for that since its a little more universal than 850 ;)

@JasonParis:

As a long time RBI internet user, might I humbly suggest it would be great if rural sites could be given a higher priority in the VoLTE upgrade programme. It would be good to stay on 4G whilst phone calls are in progress.

Cheers,

Colin

@colinuu Project is already in place VodafoneNZ already has a roll out plan in place and every 4G site will have VoLTE enabled over the coming few months

They will not change this plan, Every end user wants to stay on 4G while on a Voice call not just RBI users

Looks like all of the Wellington Region (From Peka Peka and Remutaka south) has been upgraded going by the coverage map

Don't suppose if anybody knows when (if ever) devices not sold by Vodafone NZ will be supported? I have a Pixel 3 which certainly has VoLTE capability, but no options to turn it on.

This is the gotcha about vowifi and volte. Both require the capability to be enabled in software.

As such non supported devices will always be touch and go..
