Hello Everyone,

Before I start, I should say I know a similar topic (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=40&TopicId=20022) has been posted prior on this forum but "it is now locked" and I could not post my question there. Also, my issue relates to opening Port 80 on Vodafone Mobile Broadband Connectcard, not a router as the previous topic which is now closed.

I have Vodafone Mobile Broadband which I use via my Vodafone Connectcard. For many months now, I have been trying to use this broadband connection to serve up my webpages but cannot get it to work because port 80 is not open or some other problem. My Laptop is all setup correctly as I can immediately use it to run the webserver on my laptop if I use any other connection besides the Vodafone connection. I have been reading up all I can on the internet but no joy until I stumbled on the entry about this on this forum.

Am not sure what am doing wrong as each and everything on my laptop is etup correctly which leaves the connection itself. I am hoping that the member who has kindly helped the other users can help me. I am navigating to my laptop using the public IP address of my machine which is clearly different from the one shown on My Connection when I view it. The IP address shown in My Connection works only for localhost so I hope there is some way I can get this working. I only got this Vodafone account just to use for this reason and I can't seem to get it to work.

I have a screenshot I would have added to this post but can't see how to do this on this forum

Are you in New Zealand or the UK?

The reason this happens is because most mobile carriers block all inbound traffic by default on their default APN's for mobile data and provide you with a NAT IP address. You need to change the APN to one that allows inbound traffic.

A list of Vodafone NZ APN's is available here. Using the Internet APN will allow inbound traffic.

If you are in the UK however things will be different so you would have to contact Vodafone and ask them.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I am in the UK and don't know how this affects me. Is Vodafone service different from one country to the next? How do I go about resolving this or what am I supposed to find out from Vodafone. What is the APN list you mentioned used for? Is a NAT IP address something I can readily get from Vodafone?

This all sounds pretty complicated and unfortunately, I am tied to a long Vodafone contract otherwise I would have found another provider without all these problems.
