Just a short shout here for VF NZ. I installed a VF TV for an elderly relative recently and thought that functionality and value for money was excellent.

There were a few minor niggles, like no easy information on how to hide Sky channels and linking VF remote to power on TV, but overall I thought this a great little product.

And great to see VF @sansom on GZ supporting the product.

Thanks, and a big shout out to you @dafman for thinking to post positive feedback!

I should mention there's also @zollymonsta and a bunch of others behind the scenes that make it happen.

@sansom any idea on when the fix for showing multiple wireless networks when an SSID is available from different APs?

Hi @freitasm

We're going to ask if this is on the roadmap.  I believe the user impact is low since this mainly impacts customers using enterprise level routers with external APs.

Yes, I saw it too as I use Unifi gear at home and have two AP's connected.

Cheers,

Grant

Or not... I was using a FritzBox with a Synology router (in bridge mode) in the lounge. Same SSID/password. All devices show one SSID only but the VTV shows two.

Last weekend changed to Fritzbox with a D-Link COVR-2202 (in bridge mode) with a mesh client. Again, all devices show one SSID only but the VTV now shows three (the Fritzbox, the base COVR and the satellite COVR). So I wonder if people using other consumer mesh solutions (multiple Fritzbox in mesh mode, D-Link COVR devices, Google WiFi and so on) wouldn't be affected.

Hmmm true. I was only thinking of the enterprise gear...  the home network world is evolving :)  Ok, we will follow up and see if this has been highlighted to be resolved by VF Group.

Got the VTV for the 3 day rewind, and recording, and also hoping that it has a better UI than our Samsung TV.

Seems like it works really well but it seems a complete mystery as to get to something like catch-up sometimnes it is there and seems obvious, other times ???.  So another vote for some sort of documentation or  youtube clips on how to drive it.

But my real question is about getting the CEC working between my Samsung TV (anynet+).  The TV sees the STB as an unknown device.  Some of the remote functionality works.  CEC is turned on, and it works as expected for Chromecast but seems limited for the VTV STB.  I was able to get the power button on the vodafone remote to turn off the TV by using the technique referenced earlier in the thread (I assume it is using IR rather than controlling through HDMI).

Is there something as simple as a different HDMI cable to try, or is there a way of configuring the STB to provide more info to the Samsung TV ?

Thanks for any info.

As a prelude to replacing the T-Box I invested in a Gen2 VFTV box.

Currently don't see the T-Box leaving except in a pine box.  The user interface has caused some issues, HGTV has been breaking up all evening and one program black screened 5 mins from the end and couldn't be recovered.  Many of the problems are probably user learning curve issues but whilst the VFTV box can probably do a lot of clever things tonight has not been a good experience for the critical users.

1. Rewinding a program that had been stopped for 20 mins resulted in a "Restart or Record" box set in the bottom left corner. The program wouldn't play so I restarted and tried to fast forward, potentially ran off past the end of the program but couldn't rewind back..  Lost the last 10 minutes.  Couldn't find a way to replay the program or if it's possible.

2. Black screened a program in the last 5 mins, unable to find a way to view as the program had finished.

@prevaljo  1) If you want to FF when the show is still recording (not finished) then use the 20 second FF button above the normal FF button and this issue will not happen

2) Start watching the next TV show right after the one that has finished and you sometimes end up with the last few minutes there

When watching on demand TV shows it doesn't seem to keep a record of what last watch, so have to remember episode up to?

Could not see anything under my TV or watch next, and no blue line or anything showing below shows watched.

My unit does ... the word "Watched" appears in white at the righthand end of the Episode list.  I think one has to let the credits roll and complete the episode viewing for this to be so tagged.

Couple of probably been asked before questions:

1) Is there a browser interface for the Gen2 box?
2) Can the USB port be used to add local storage?

Thanks in advance.

1) It doesn't have a user accessible browser, but most of the apps are HTML5 apps that technically run inside a browser.

2) No.

This is the advice & I wished to have found in this thread/topic..

Do NOT buy this box unless you :-

 - try it in the flesh

- can live with the terrible UI (eye bleeding low resolution 400 line? & super-soft focus/fuzz filter)

- can live with 1/3 screen filled with Sky content.

- have no Wifi security or have LAN cable.

- believe the develops are willing & able fix the above.

Setup out of the box can be a painful. It required 2 reboots & then could not go into standby until cold reboot.

And all that required entry of SSID & password four times.

The displayed URL for activation code was wrong; Mr Google to the rescue.

I suspect that power cycling the device will require entering the wifi SSID & password again.

The UI is rendered in unbelievably low resolution & then has a soft focus filter applied.

Seems impossible to purge the Sky VOD? from menu interface.

The Sky VOD covers are also barely readable (scaled postage stamps).

The TVNZ & Netflix app UIs do not seem quite as bad (half PQ of desktop browser UI)

This box is probably less likely to survive than some Android solutions & appears very dependant on small development team & buy-in from external providers.

Sadly, this is probably more likely to end in landfill than a cheap Android toy because there is no Android app store.

The actual streaming functionality (TVNZ on-demand & IPTV) is impressive even over Wifi & ADSL.

The UX of TVNZ on-demand & Netflix app is so much nicer than desktop browser equivalent.

So the worst aspects of this device are potentially easy to resolve. The hard stuff works quite well.

But I suspect the Sky stuff can't be removed.

There was an issue I think at the start of the year where Sky had updated some channels to HD but Vodafone TV was still showing the SD version, has this been resolved?

Nope. I'll wait until 20/06 (today in fact) and cancel Entertainment because of this unresolved matter. It's like Vodafone drag the same boat anchor that Sky do.
