I'd love a standalone app for my existing Android TV devices as well as the ability to pay a basic fee for high quality FTA access.

As for the units being out of the stock in the consumer channel, I have heard this from Vodafone: "with supply issues, we need all current stock for our existing customers. This means new Vodafone TV retail stock is in short supply."

So perhaps not a big conspiracy to retire the product - yet.

I received the same line. Having been through, Tivo, Igloo and other Telco stuff like Morepork etc I am not buying the story from Vodafone.

I'm not buying it either. You won't see the VTV in stores again.

The conspiracy thickens...   Sky showing off first pics of a streaming Android 4K box today.

Being able to buy the unit outright and every channel in HD/4K I hope *fingers crossed*

That might take a while. But you know what will be better? Rugby in 4K. It's already been done for EPL in some countries lately but from the time Sky in the UK made EPL broadcast on 4K, they international pickup for that kind of content was slow.

I’m stumped. Am trying to re-setup my Samsung TV Universal remote with the VF box. I set it up last time with difficulty but both remotes worked, so it is possible.

This time I get to the channel up and down part to check if it’s paired but it doesn’t change the channel. It takes me to the next page - search for the model number of the box. There is none I can register, so I tried the sagecom DIW387-UHD suggested on page 114 in this thread. That exact model did not feature in the drop down menu but there were a couple others the same number and UHD but with additional letters behind that I also tried. No joy.

At one stage of the proceedings it said to check if my box is set to receive IR. From the comments above, it is and in the VF remote settings couldn’t see anything that would assist.

I’ve removed the Samsung remote batteries and paired it to the TV again. No difference. So my universal remote does on, volume, back etc but won’t change channels. Any help please. I’ve spent ages trying everything.

Just realised that the problem is with the Samsung universal remote. It won’t change channels so of course it can’t test up and down when trying to pair with the VF box.

I looked up every fix on google removed batteries, paired again, factory reset the remote, cycled the tv on and off and still can’t get the channels to change on the remote. All other buttons on remote are working. Frustrating.

I confirmed with a Vodafone Rep that Vodafone TV is now end of life and the only way to get one is via a Vodafone store and to add a monthly rental fee to your account.

You can no longer get them from places like Noel Leeming and buy them outright and any remaining units will be sent back to Vodafone as spares to honor warranty claims etc.  Apparently it was costing them too much money and they felt like there was too much competition in the market to keep it going.  Pretty classic Vodafone to leave people in the lurch.

So the service is EOL but you can still get one with a monthly fee? That does not sound end of life to me!

If I was to guess, Vodafone must have had the rights to sell the service to anyone, however since Sky are releasing a box that is effectively the same as the VTV, Vodafone might have had to withdraw the stock by a certain date and perhaps only sell it to its broadband customers?

This is my opinion, not based on any rumors etc..

I wonder if the Sky service will be dropped completely when Sky launches the new box?

I’ll certainly be looking at the possibility of replacing my VTV when the new Sky box is available.

I vaguely read somewhere that the new Sky box based on a custom Android ROM which will still run google play services, will be operated the same way as what sky boxes are right now i.e. connected to a satellite, and when rain fade kicks in, the channel feed can be switched to the internet to operate normally (like iptv, aka Vodafone TV method) during the outage.

Why would they do that? I think it's to help keep the service running through the internet as a secondary backup measure during undesirable weather conditions for households that don't have unlimited internet access, while keeping satellite feed as a primary source.

So I think the traditinal sky channels will still be around, considering that the image we saw on the news websites, does have a smart card slot on the side of the box.
