I've posted a few questions over on the Vodafone Community, but if anyone here can answer, that'd be great. I've removed the ones already answered in this thread.

I bought the latest Gen2 Vodafone TV the other day and have been exploring it, but come across a few issues and quirks. Has anyone else experienced these?

Issues:

  • If a show/movie is paused on Lightbox for a considerable length (30+ mins), resuming the show does not deliver any audio. Even when exiting that app, live TV and other apps have no sound until the unit is rebooted.
  • When in the main menu, I select Continue Judge Judy, and Tagata Pasifika appears. This also happens when I search for Judge Judy in the guide. See video example here. When I try to record Judge Judy, Tagata Pasifika also shows in scheduled recordings.
  • The sound effects on the YouTube app are distorted when moving between menu items. Compare this to a Smart TV and you will be able to notice that they are considerably different, with VTV sounding terrible.

Quirks/Questions:

  • The remote appears to have an inbuilt microphone (and button to match), but this just opens the search for me to type. Will this have voice search in the future?
  • The box doesn't appear to have automatic standby - is that planned?
  • I've noticed when watching TVNZ 1 in Auckland, I am getting ads for Christchurch-based businesses, so it seems like I am getting a Christchurch feed with local ads.

Hi, regarding your points in turn:

1. I haven't heard of this bug before and will pass it on to the team.

2. This is an issue with the metadata associated with both Judge Judy and Tagata Pasifika episodes which both have the same series ID.  We'll need to set up a fake series ID to separate these out.

3. Can I just check, are you talking about the noise it makes when you navigate around the app?!

4. Yes, that is for voice search.  We will be launching voice search in the future (using Google's voice recognition engine).

5. It does go into various standby modes, all boxes will stop streaming after a period to reduce load on the network (would need to check with others for the exact details).

6. @Olof might have to comment on this one.

Hi, regarding your points above:

  1. The VodafoneTV does have automatic standby, see Settings > More Settings > Power where you can set the Auto Standby Time (default is 3h, but you can change between OFF/2/4/6/8 hours).
  2. VodafoneTV is currently not regionalised and the TVNZ feeds are based on the Auckland region. In your example, the Christchurch based business must have purchased nationwide advertising.

Hope this helps.

The remote for my Vodafone TV Remote for the Gen 2 Retail Box doesn't appear to work 2 mornings out of 3 until I unplug the box from the power and then re pair the Bluetooth. Is this normal or a bug and how can I avoid this happening?

I've had the same problem, I've just rebooted box, no re pair required.

Was that over Terrestrial Freeview or Vodafone TV. I've seen their ads on terrestrial in Dunedin (I think we get the Christchurch feed).

I found something under power management, don’t have box on now but top option was for quick start up from standby, then go down and it had set a time for how long until go to standby, think it was 1 hour, 2 hours or 4 hours.

If anyone is still considering buying one, The Warehouse currently has $1 off for every $10 spent making the effective price $162. Also stacks with the WM Visa discount making it $153.90. Online only, ends midnight Tuesday.

For standby settings go to Settings > More Settings > Power. Auto Standby time can be configured as OFF, 2,4,6,8 hours.

We’ve just reproduced the issue with the programme you mentioned so the team will look into this.

Prime is recordable as part of Freeview and the problem is with this individual programme.

It also appears to be a problem with Seal Team on Tuesday at 22:00 on Prime if you don't have a subscription to Sky.

It says "all episodes in program available in your Recording Soon Series Recording Scheduled"

but when you go to play it has a button "Subscribe" and no way of watching.

@Sanson it appears that the Vodafone TV Gen2 Set Top Box won't restart from the remote even though the LED swaps from red to white after 3 hours being off when Standby is off in settings or after the other times in Standby Settings if selected, and you have to unplug the box and plug it back in again to fix the problem.  I haven't tried the standby button on the side of the box and am unsure what the effect of it is. Does anyone know? I suspect the box needs an unlimited Standby option to fix this bug in the design.

The VodafoneTV box should always start from remote control, no matter how long it has been asleep, and no matter which sleep mode and Auto Standby time settings you have. In effect, if the white LED is on, the STB is on and should display on your TV screen.

We have noticed this issue intermittently affecting a small number of customers and are investigating and working on a fix that will be pushed out OTA.

@taylorjamesbarr We have looked into this issue and we have not been able to replicate on either Gen1 or Gen2 boxes. (Lightbox and developer have also unsuccessfully tried to replicate.) Can you please try to replicate on your side again, and let us know if the issue is still there? Thanks!

@sansom It would be nice if the Vodafone Gen2 Set Top Box supported Spotify. Is there any likelihood of this being the case in the near future please?

Can regionalised ads go on the wish list? Would also make advertisers happy.
