With version 57.11 of the firmware of VTV and HDMI CEC fully on, on a Sony Bravia KDL-60EX720 TV, I have found getting it back into synch is easy just by aiming the remote correctly at the TV, turning it off and then turning it back on again until back in synch. You may find it works better in the future for you if you already have HDMI CEC turned on with future releases of firmware. In the meantime you can get them back into synch by covering the front of the remote with your hand and using the power button to just control the VTV.

Thanks but we are simply not interested in faffing around trying to figure out whether the sync is 1,1 or 0,1 or 1,0 or whatever - and covering the front of the remote etc etc. We will just turn on the TV. If VTV is still on because it hasn’t gone into standby, all good. If VTV is off/standby, we’ll pick up the VTV remote and turn it on. Life’s too short .....

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

We agree...while good in theory, it can get out of sync in practice.  This is why we don't promote this feature.

From memory, the VTV box should be off when you start step 2.  (as the TV will be off at the end of the step 4 and you will then want to turn both on at the same time otherwise they will be out of step with each other)

It doesn't currently use CEC, although support for this is coming.  I understand that it switches the remote to IR mode for controlling both TV & VTV box as it was a feature on the original non-bluetooth VTV remote, so this may be why it's not working for you.  @olof may be able to confirm?

The TV should be on as per instructions:

(I think @sansom has already posted above in another message.)

The VodadoneTV does indeed still use IR to control your TV when paired in this manner. (Even though it is using BLE to control the VodafoneTV.)

As @sansom noted, we are not really promoting this feature. If you want multi-device control, you are generally better off using universal remote. (Noting that we are making good progress with being added to the Logitech Harmony database.)

Hamish in my case I started out with the VTV Remote paired. This means VTV is still controlled by Bluetooth, and the TV is controlled by IR after the process completes. This can be confirmed by covering the front of the remote and finding that TV controls no longer work, but Bluetooth ones to the VTV still do. The CEC in my case only relates to a Sanyo Bravia TV controlling the Sanyo Home Theatre I believe. So yes the VTV can still be behind the TV. The TV should be on before starting Step 2 of the first section, and I believe the VTV needs to be on. You can get the TV and VTV power on/off back into synchronisation if they ever get out of synch by covering the front of the remote and pressing the power button to turn on just the VTV, after turning on the TV by other means.

You are spot on.

Also noting that we are not getting proper CEC support until the next major release, R6.0. We are currently on R5.1.

Looking at purchasing a second hand Vodafone TV Box, How do I idenfify if it's gen 1 or Gen 2?

Look at the label under the VodafoneTV box:

- Hardware version = NZ-80 or NZ-81 --> GEN1

- Hardware version = NZ-512 --> GEN2

Gen2 is also about 40% smaller, and have a remote control with a small microphone hole on it. (Feature not yet deployed.)

Jizah: So just bought one of these, and it's stuck on "Your Vodafone TV is connecting to the Internet...."
This was after the remote only responding to every 10th button press when trying to choose network or WiFi connection options.
Do I have a lemon?
I've unplugged it multiple times, restarted router etc.

Have you managed to resolve this issue?

IvanPiacun:

I would like to make some suggestions for the Vodafone Gen2 Set Top box UI:

When you have deleted the oldest episode in a series or if there are more recent episodes in the series the display should, after removing the display for that episode that was deleted, move to the next more recent episode in the series with the highlighted button being the delete button so that next one can be easily deleted, or if there are no more recent episodes it should move to the next older episode if there is one.

Also there should be an option to delete all episodes in a series but leave the scheduled recording of future episodes in the series in place, and an option to delete all previous episodes.

Ivan, just noting that we do have significant "recording management" improvements coming in the next major release.

@sansom @olof I have the new version unit and recently it has started to have black screen and no sound for about 2 seconds or a grey screen no sound for a couple of seconds. This is occurring on Freeview and Sky channels. The unit is connected via wired Ethernet to a gigabit UFB service. Until this started all has been good

Edit: this is also occurring when viewing Netflix using the VTV unit.

I don't think they have an applic for gen 2 at moment, the applic is for gen 1

Looking forward to when they do add it to applic, so can remote record etc.

Does the Vodafone TV have a setting to change the refresh rate to 50Hz?

My TV only has this refresh rate and this is the only way I can chromecast video that is not jittery. More info about 50HZ here: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6308937?hl=en

Noting that if you are on the Gen2 box, we have not yet launched support for the mobile Vodafone TV app. Planned for November.

(If you are on Gen1, your Vodafone login should work fine.)

VodafoneTV content is already in 50 or 25 frames per second. (50fps for channels that carry sport, and 25fps for other channels.)

This should certainly not be happening. We do have a defect fix in relation to black screen that some customers have seen (firmware 57.11). This version was pushed out to a small number of customers late last week, and will be pushed to remaining Gen2 customers this week. Please let us know if your problems are not resolved after this release.
