So this morning I turn on the box to a poor picture. Check the bitrate and itโ€™s only 1680kbps. I left it for 30s and checked again and itโ€™s the same. Change channel to TV3 and the picture is perfect. Bitrate was back to 6074kbps. Change back to TVNZ 1, the picture is fine and the bitrate is still 6074kbps. Urn the box off and back on again and Iโ€™m back to only 1680kbps again.

Looks like changing the channel will force it to jump to the highest available bitrate?

@Senecio when is the problem actually occurring? Is it when watching a live channel, a recorded program, a Sky or a Freeview channel, a Sky or a Freeview program recording, or only in some Apps? Also what are you noticing that is obtrusive please? What hardware have you got the TV connected to and are you using only HDR supported HDMI cables in the path to the television? What TV and model have you got, and what model Video/Audio receiver are you using if any?

Ivan Piacun CITPNZ

Hi Ivan,

It appears everywhere. As soon as I turn on the box my TV thinks it is receiving an HDR signal. Doesn't matter whether I'm sitting on the home screen, watching FTA live or recorded, or watching YouTube or any other Apps. The issue is that the box is taking content that isn't designed to be displayed in HDR and trying to mimic an HDR signal. As a result sometimes the colours can appear over saturated. Its consistent with the default setting on an ATV 4k but at least with an ATV this can be disabled and set to match content. My current TV (2019 Panasonic OLED) does a better of job of trying to reproduce the colours accurately but my last TV (2015 Sony LCD) was poor.

In terms of hardware, nothing else involved. VTV Gen 2 box connected directly to the TV with full HDR compliant HDMI cable.

I have the exact same issue connecting directly to my 2019 Panasonic OLED (55gz1000u) from my gen2 VTV.  Whatever resolution I select it’s always with hdr enabled.  My Apple TV 4K and PS4 pro have no issues and are in 4K/sdr then switch to hdr when they need to.  Have used the HDMI cables used on my other 4K devices and tried the other HDMI ports but no difference.

My current work around is to connect to my non 4K/hdr av receiver which lets me display 1080p/50hz sdr on the tv.  Not ideal but works for now.

Probably silly question … what does "3 day rewind" mean?

If you want to watch a program that "aired" on the last three days you can just find it on the EPG grid and click to play it - up to 72 hours since screening. After this you will have to find it in the On Demand services for TVNZ or Three.

Thanks … so essentially the Rewind function is the same as TVNZOnDemand and ThreeNow?

The advertising for the VodafoneTV device doesn't actually show OnDemand or ThreeNow as being a service or app, so how are they found/invoked?

I don't have the device, just been asked this question by an elderly friend considering purchase ๐Ÿ˜

Hi, I'm the product owner for VTV at Vodafone.

We called it 3 day rewind to indicate that it is not the same as the "catch up" or "on demand" services as provided by TVNZ On Demand or Three Now.  3 day rewind service is the key (killer) feature of the product: if a live programme has already started it is very simple to rewind or restart it.  You can do the same trick with almost all programmes shown in the last 3 days (over 90% offer 3 day rewind).  This feature is part of the main user interface and is *fast*, no need to launch or log in to an app.

In addition  to 3 day rewind, VTV also offers the TVNZ On Demand and Mediaworks ThreeNow apps for those programmes that have shown more than 3 days ago.

Also can fast forward adds 3 day rewind, on demand services cannot.

I just used the TVNZ On Demand app on the VTV for the first time. For the show I wanted to watch, it consistently failed at the first point where it was to have played an advertisement. That's even less useable than the TVNZ On Demand Android app, which itself has a plurality of one star reviews.

I have had this happening as well - but only on one profile. Everything plays fine for that profile on my others devices - perhaps try creating a new TVNZ profile and see if it works

I am going to factory reset my VTV tomorrow, to see if it permanently fixes the issue

I did that a couple of months ago and had to reregister the box vtv wouldn't recognise the box id number you use when you first register it as it was already registered. Had to contact Vodafone and they gave me a number which must be like a temp password or field access anyway when entered it recognised box was registered to my vtv account and worked as per.

Thanks for the suggestion about a new profile. I may try that if our use of TVNZ On Demand increases, but for now it's very rare. We resorted to Android + Chromecast last night and it worked well enough.

TVNZ have found the issue and this should now be resolved.  It relates to adverts using a DRM that is incompatible with the VTV player sometimes being served up in error.   This may be why changing the profile appeared to work (new profile received different ads).

Thank you for that update, Yes, it seems to be all good. We have recently given TVNZ On Demand through the VTV box another go, using it for a few episodes of a full season we're watching. It has worked without any problems.
