I have got broadband(cable) and telephone through telstraclear. I have decided to cancel my phone line and get VFX. I just got off the phone with Xnet Sales. I was told that I cannot cancel my existing line and get VFX. I need to get an additional line(i.e. keep my existing line with telstra) or get Fusion if I want to cancel my existing line with telstra.

What I believed is that I just need broadband to get VFX. Am I right?

To get VFX, yes, you only need broadband, but what youre  wanting from your post, is naked DSL with VFX, which is a little more complicated with telecommunication providers other than Telecom.........

Is your line an actual Telstra line, or just your phone account is with Telstra ? edit : Telstra cable....  think thats your problem there, no actual "Telecom" line to you so a new line would have to be organised.

If its an actual Telstra line, then I think there are things preventing you from going to full naked DSL with Xnet, but Im sure someone from Xnet will be along soon to confirm :)

My line is a Telecom line but I use IHUG/Vodafone for my phone service - for me to go Naked to Xnet keeping my current number, I have to go back to Telecom first, then to Xnet......  or disconnect all my phone services, then sign up with Xnet but lose my current number (not an option for me unfortunately).

It's an actual telstra phone line. But for broadband I am using Telstra Cable. That's what I am going to use for VFX.

They probably didn't understand that you had TCL cable rather than TCL ADSL. You can have TCL cable without a phoneline and use VFX for your VoIP, I have this same setup myself.

You just need to be aware you can't cancel your TCL phone if you are in a term contract. You also can't have a low end cable plan (the 4mbps ones) without a phoneline, only the 10mbps plans are available by themselves without a phone package.

The catch here is that if you want to port your phone number to VFX then WorldxChange need to do everything for you so you need to contact them first to arrange a number port. If you rung up TCL and cancel your phoneline before signing up with VFX you will lose your number.

I'm sure one of the WxC guys will see this post and help you if you. You could however try ringing them back and explaining that you are a TCL cable customer and simply want to create a new VFX account and start the porting process of a TCL phone number.

I told the lady that I am using telstra cable. She something about "that I cannot get a phone line at this price. I need to get an additional line or go for Fusion."

Telstra HighSpeed 10G(Up to 4 Mbps / 2 Mbps) does not require a phone package.

I'm assuming the vast majority of calls that WxC get are from people with a home line + ADSL, so her response would be right 90% of the time.  See sbiddle's response above for how it all works in your scenario.

If you want to signup, send me a PM and I'll give you a call and take you through the forms (we are a WxC dealer).

I will have a chat to our Sales and Customer Care teams to make sure that their newest staff are aware of how to deal with queries regarding TelstraClear cable and VFX etc.

As already posted, you can use VFX via the TCL cable system and for that matter any other IP-based access method.

You simply need one of the certified IP devices and a VFX-only service from us

Hope this helps.
