Copper is an expensive service to provide, and will only get worse over time as more people move off it. If you think that it should be subsidized because someone is old then talk to Winston about that, businesses shouldn't be required to sell something at a loss just because someone is old.

Some of us are stuck with copper for the forseeable future. As long as Chorus refuses to bring fibre into our lifestyle village, we are stuck with ADSL 6Mbps (if we are lucky) even though fibre is in the road outside. I don't think Winston has any influence on that!

I think you are twisting his words. @richsms specifically said copper should slowly be phased out when alternative/better technology is available instead of forcing telcos to support obsolete technology just because some people refuse to move on.
