Hi everyone, sorry if this has been covered before but I have not seen any threads on this.

Belive it or not, caller ID is not available at out telephone exchange, Three Kings according to Telecom, Blockhouse bay according to world exchange.

When I first had VFX and I had a call from a friend it would come up with his name ( he was on slingshot Italk ) and his name was not in my phone.

When I was happy with the VFX call quality by going FLS / FLS I had XNET port my number and moved to the Fusion plan.

When I had a call from my friend it now comes up with his number only, not his name.

I logged a fault with world exchange and after reseting the router several times to reload the config there was no difference, I then was told "Also I've just spoken to our VFX team, apparently slingshot handle calls differently now and so we're no longer getting the name to pass on, that probably explains it :("

When I call him he gets my name and number.

He has moved his number over to 2talk and he still get's it and I don't get his.

Also whenI get the email from VFX it only hav ethe number, says name unavailable.

This sugests to me that WX are blocking the names from other providers. ( I don't know anyone else on VFX to  see if that works but I am sure it will )

Does anyone else hav ethis problem or is it just me.

Once you have had a nifty feature like this you don't like to loose it.

Looking forward to hereing what others have to say.

Cheers

John

My understanding of this (which I stand to be corrected on) is that WxC and CallPlus were peering IP calls directly with each other. This meant that both your number and name were sent as the calls were pure IP between networks.

Due to issues with this, calls between both of their networks now transverse the PSTN which here in NZ doesn't pass on enhanced CID and simply passes the numeric CID, not the name.

The alphanumeric CallerID feature is cool but will be only be available with direct SIP interconnects, anything that transverses the PSTN will have this stripped.

Its a pity your friend didnt get VFX as well and then names would go 2 ways on the caller displays. I got my son onto fusion and I am on fusion and we have 2 way names showing on our displays

Yes it is a bit of a shame he is not on VFX but he was running Aserix before world exchange would let you and with italk you can have up to six incomming or outgong calls on the same trunk / number / sip
It was amazing how often I was on the phone with him and another call or two would come in at the same time.
Cheers

Hi there, do you know of Any phone provider peering IP calls directly with WXC?
Thanks

VFX's Asterisk account supports up to 4 simultaneous with 2 in / 2 out.

You could convince him to move to VFX and port his number! :-)

FYI I'm not aware of anybody else doing SIP interconnects with WxC. It will be interesting to see how the SIP interconnect market evolves in NZ as more carriers deploy VoIP services. Calls between two different VoIP providers having to transverse the PSTN is just plain crazy!

The reason your friend sees your name is Callplus are doing a reverse Caller ID lookup and displaying the name if published in the white pages.

I have recently started getting this on my 2talk line and it is really handy. Wish WxC would do the same. Not sure if it is a privacy issue tho...

In telecoms eys there is not privacy issue if they purchase the data of teleocm, telecom get uspset when people use the information from white pages without there permission as they say it is in breach of copyright i.e. high speed OCR scans or harvesting of the white pages website.
That is why we don't get our white and yellow ( before yellow was sold off ) pages on CD like you can in Australia as the information can be harvested.
Telecom must make a fortune selling off the white pages information, that is probably why they charge extra to have an uslisted number.

I just wish I had this service back again, it would be better if we got the information that is stored in our 100 soeed dials on the VFX website, that way we have our most frquent names and numbers popping up when they call.

Here is a new one, the mother inlaw just called and the number on the phone come up as private, when the email comes through it has her home number.
Go figure?
I have not seen that one before.
