Did anyone else get this text message.

It's odd because I never bought into any iPhone contracts or data plans.
But somehow they still know I've got one.
Hello big brother!

PS. I posted it here because it's not strictky about iPhone but rather Vodafone's snooping on clients.

They probably know what model phone you're using from the IMEI associated with your account.  Not really them snooping on you, it's information they need in order to associate a SIM with a phone with an account.

I don't really think it's snooping on customers, I think it's quite good that they tell you there's new software/firmware available. However it is a waste of time as that update came out over a week ago, and if anyone had plugged their iPhone into a computer within the last week the update notification would have come up on the computer anyway (updates are checked weekly).
I imagine that the list the TXT went to would have been generated via the type of handset you use as opposed to the plan you're on.

I dunno, I know a lot of people that very rarely hook up to iTunes at all.  Non techy people too so there's no other way they'd know there is an update available.  I guess Voda were getting continued calls for the software issues that were prevalent on 2.0, 2.0.1, and 2.0.2 and thought it a good option to bulk text all the iPhone IMEI's with the update info.

Weird how it was all in proper english?
Maybe Apple Advised them to send the message?
Funny how they now acknowledge pre-pay users :D
