freitasm: What does it involve to become "unmetered"? Some special peering, or just a handshake?

Can we have Geekzone unmetered as well?

Hmmm not sure about the value of this. This weekend backup's of the geekzone servers which consume all the bandwidth in Khandallah nodes will have to continue being metered....>!!!!!

Freitasm. Ok, I have checked with our Online Marketing Manager, Nicola Clement. We are currently running the unmetering as a time limited promotion, ending the 21st of December. We will review the outcome of unmetered before the promotion ends and decide how unmetering will "move forward". I have asked for your request to unmeter Geekzone to be discussed at the review. Will keep you posted!

somebody123: Is it possible to get a list of the IP addresses for the servers which are unmetered (so I can factor these in to the ip accounting setup on my home network)?

Somebody123: Due to us unmetering third parties we do not want to list the IP addresses at this stage without their consent. Probably not to hard for you to figure out however!

Thanks Olof - I figured that might be the case. I've composed a list by pinging the various addresses, so as long as there isn't any strange load balancing going on then I should be right.

What about just a list of those third parties (ie their web addresses or company names)? Or is this already available?

From what I have been able to work out, it's:
trademe.co.nz
images.trademe.co.nz
flash.mediaworks.co.nz
video.clearnet.co.nz

Plus the gameservers listed here: http://www.clearnetdeluxe.co.nz/

Thanks. I was hoping it was more than that though.

Olof - I know this probably isn't in your area, but are you able to find out when there will likely be downloads available on clearnetdeluxe? Since launch, the downloads page has been empty, promising downloads later... still waiting!

Correct, the unmetered sites currently are:
  • Trademe sites
  • Clearnet video (video.clearnet.co.nz etc)
  • Mediaworks video (as served by Clearnet video)
  • Clearnet Deluxe gaming servers (see  http://www.clearnetdeluxe.co.nz/)
The above is currently in a promotion ending 21 December. We will review outcome before than and announce what will happen to unmetered.Hope this helps,

Screeb: Got some info for you: The work on the download area is about to start. However, I cannot tell you right now the date that it will be made available.  However, as soon as we know some details around the timing, I will try to let you know.

I would like to congratulate Clearnet on doing this. Certainly makes me feel better about paying a premium for my internet! Can't wait till the downloads section comes up. It will be great to be able to download game demo's as opposed to buying gaming magazines that include them, which is all I can do with a 10gb limit :D

Telstra are actually pretty cheap if you use the entire or near the entire 10gb pack, $11.95 for 10gb or $1.2 per gb.

With other ISP's doing pay per GB and some others doing data banking (when you buy a pack then don't use all of it the remainder rolls over to the next month) I wonder if Telstra are considering more flexible plans/packs in the future?

For $5 more a month you can get 20GB with ADSL2+ on Telecom.

It was good value before they upped the prices...
