I`ve been on the torrent plan for 3 months, and in the first couple of months it was absolutely brilliant. When I needed to download something overnight, I was able to get 4 or 5 GB data without breaking a sweat. But this month, something seems to have changed. Both my torrent and newsbin speeds are pathetic, I can get about 600MB data overnight. This happened pretty much from one day to the next for me, looks like starting from the month of October.

Does anybody else have similar observations? What could be the reason, apart from obviously too many people using the Torrent plan by now? Has Xnet done something to reduce the torrent plan`s bandwidth?

EDIT: by the way, my speeds during the day are great, both torrent and usenet speeds.

It isn't just the torrent plan, from mid afternoon until well into the night (when I go to sleep) my browsing has been noticeably slow lately and speedtests (yes I know they have limited worth) don't hit 1Mbit to any of the national sites.

EDIT: Ignore me, the next post makes this post of mine OT.

My speeds are decent until midnight and right after 8 am in the morning. Only the free period which has gone to a halt in the last week or so.

Also note that there has been an issue for the last few days:

It might explain what you're seeing.  Hopefully it'll be sorted soon and the flatmates can stop giving me grief about it Smile.

Yeah I read about that issue, but wasn`t sure it`s related cos I have good speeds during the day. Anyway, it`s worth having a look tonight, my upload speed tests are back, so it may have been fixed.

hey i experience the same problems as you i am on xnets hsi torrent plan with full up and full down speed,
runs fine during the day but ive noticed that between 1030pm - 8am my speeds drop to allmost dial up for international traffic while national dropz a bit but nothing to concern me

i thought going to xnet would b great with the big catch being 75gb free, Well whats the point i managed to get my free usage up2 40gb last month only becaused i managed to connected to some NZ seeders lucky for me :) but im starting to think i was better off staying with orcon mainly because over the last couple of days xnet has been poo's as after 12 cant even keep a conection to pokerstars with NO Torrents running at all just keeps droping out and then a min or 2 later it will reconnect very stressfull when you are playn for cash

Comon Xnet sort it out or im going back to orcon

Have a look tonight, the problem may have been fixed, by the sound of things. If it is indeed related to that issue acknowledged by Xnet in that link above. Fingers crossed.

May I offer a logical suggestion here:
75 GB free data, most likely everyone has reached their cap before end of month, so therefore end of month, much less people doing their overnight downloads.
1st of the month, yee ha! 75GB, here I go again!

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend from $150 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?
I install - Naked DSL, DSL Master Splitters, VoIP, data cabling and general computer support for home and small business.
Rural Broadband RBI installer for Ultimate Broadband and Full Flavour

Problem still exists I`m afraid. Will try coffeebaron`s suggestion, but at this rate, nobody will fill 15 GB free traffic for the month, let alone 75, so I don`t think it will be better at the end of the month. Xnet must have done something cos things were much much better last month.
