quickymart: I wonder about that too, but then again they have invested a lot of money into it, just to walk away from it all and start paying someone else to use their network, instead of their own.

I think the long term play is 5G, fixed wireless and fibre for businesses and consumers who are heavy users. As others have noted, at some point you have to cut your losses or otherwise you'll get stuck in the sunken cost fallacy of throwing more money because "it would be waste if we cut our losses when we've invested so much". I could imagine in areas where it is possible to have line of sight to the tower that mmwave might be a possibility as well.

I personally don't see wireless (even 5G) as a replacement for a lot of fibre users though - I know which one I'd rather use.

I don't think any telco is realistically expecting it to completely displace fibre, but for many customers it will be perfectly adequate. I live alone and only use about 60Gb a month so I doubt I would even notice the difference between fibre versus 5G.

For someone that isnt a gamer or doing interactive remote desktop stuff a laggy connection with massive ping spikes will not matter to them. Things that most people regard as heavy users of much internet like netflix and youtube have so much buffering in them that they dont need any reliabilty to the connection to work and look great.

Lets give Jason a big hand, he seems to be the only person working at Vodafone, he's responding to complaints from customers on Geekzone, trying to fix the questionable customer service by shipping it to India, addressing the website updating problem, trying to keep Vodafone relevant and in his time off hoping that they fix the VTV Gen 2 box..

Does anyone remember when TCL had that public campaign pushing for their cable network to be wholesaled in Chch/Wgnt instead of rolling out UBF? Imagine the absolute carnage if that had gone ahead.

Yes. Yes I do.

Unsurprisingly, that was the last anyone heard of that ever again, and then Russell Stanners left. Jason has never mentioned it (that I'm aware of).

Looks like Vodafone are now selling Cable plans again, if you have an on-account mobile you can have 900 megabit cable for $63/month

Edit: Appears they have also introduced a $4/month router-rental fee to their fibre plans or BYO for free

Nice to see they've embraced offering the fastest speed only.

I couldn't find a link to this "Offer"on the Voda website.  So I once again tried the "renew your broadband plan" link, filled in my account details and invoice number and was disappointed that the website told me to call their call centre.

The message being:

"Hey there. We really want to help you to resign your plan. Please give us a call and we'll get that sorted for you. call us on 0508 00 55 00"   Why have a website if it can't do the job !! or give realistic information out.

Yeah it's a bit odd. Let's start advertising cable plans again. Go to renew through their site "oh your on cable give us a ring so we can try sell you fibre instead" Bizarre.

I don't think you've ever been able to sign up for cable (or any other Vodafone broadband connection) online - not that I can remember anyway.

Do you already have Cable pre-installed or they need to run new cable from the street?

You were able to until this thread started and now you can again. You just can't renew.
