Shows you how long it's been since I was on cable :D
For those considering giving up HFC (fibre or xTSL) this is the easiest and cheapest way to do it.
go to broadbandmap.nz, enter your address and see what's available.
Contact your new isp to arrange a connection
Contact Vodafone to advise them of your intention to cancel hfc (from memory 30 days)
The best time to do this is the day before the billing date rolls over eg billed from 19 Nov to 18th 23.59 Dec.
So on 18 Dec contact, Vodafone advising them that under 4.1 you're giving your months notice to cancel and will call back later for a cancellation date
Sign up for your new provider and start the install process for fibre with a copper to fibre cutover
The notification period and the contract term can run concurrently.
You can push the fibre install date back in case there's a hold up or a non standard install.
I wouldn't be cancelling anything until fibre was installed and up and running - what happens if there's a delay with the fibre install, that takes longer than 30 days to resolve?
Yes it might be cheaper your way but you run into the risk of having no service while an issue with the fibre install needs to be sorted out, and then you're left with no service while that's happening.
Besides, given how woeful their call centre is, I wouldn't want to call them either and say "I'll call you back later with an actual cancellation date", chances are they'll cancel it on the spot and you're left without service.
Vodafone always offer me a good deal so HFC being retained in this household.
I've always stayed with HFC purely because it's the platform for the original Voda TV service on the T-Box. However they have just pushed out a flyer telling subscribers (I'm in Wellington) that the T-Box is being retired early in the new year and a tech will contact me in January to install my new "free" VTV box.. It's now time to get a new high speed fibre connection installed.
prevaljo:I am in the same boat as you. This is bad news as far as I am concerned after reading all the trouble, on here, that they have had with it Although the T-Box gave a lot of trouble initially it has been excellent in recent years. I am on Wellington Cable. When did you get the flyer?. I presume they will install the Gen1 model.

Hadn't been in contract for more than a year.
Rang the free phone number and asked to be put through to the Retention team, well.......it was definitely worth while.
$300 credit and 1gb HFC for $60 per month. I need to load a voda mobile to get it down to $50.

That's why i'm sticking to the HFC network. Always reliable with me.

Interesting detail. It's actually a full migration off legacy POT's to VOIP from RGW, and t-box to v-box. And from TCL's legacy billing platform to Vodafone's billing system. and from the old configured bundle packages to the new ones.
Necessary, but will cause some conversation no doubt as historical discounts are removed.

It says that the pricing will be similar to the current pricing or less. Sales agents will call to discuss.
If that follows the experiences of my neighbour when dealing with the offshore call center they will not listen, or at best understand, and try their best to upsell. He's the one that had fibre installed as part of the future proofing by Chorus. He didn't request it. It will be interesting to see if they try to push him over to that.
That's going to be one helluva migration to undertake.
Damn!
I kinda like my T-Box. I'm in Wellington, and I haven't yet had a letter around the retirement of the T-Box
DOCSIS 2.0 and 3.0 going as well so will be solely DOCSIS 3.1, I believe that tech can support 10gigabit so is it likely Vodafone will offer another speed tier once everything else has be discontinued?
