I thought I would report back on my upgrade from T-box to Vodafone TV that occurred today i.e replacement of modems and T box and router. All this on the Vodafone network. Chorus fibre was installed free a few months ago and was useful in comparing the cost of the same services but through Chorus fibre.

Vodafone rang a few weeks ago to establish what services were to continue. We agreed on Vodafone TV Basic package, Internet Unlimited Data (needed to the Vodafone TV anyway) at 1000/500 and Home Phone) basically a continuation of current but now with a faster internet and no cap.

The Downer tech was on time and prompt. After establishing it would be difficult to connect the Ultrahub phone connection to the internal phone wiring I opted to just plug my handpiece wireless base station into the Ultrahub near the same position.

I had installed a long 15m Ethernet patch cable Dynalink from the router position- via under the house - and back up to the TV location so the Vodafone TV box could connect direct by ethernet to the Ultrahub. The desktop PC in a different room was already connected to the router via a similar method and worked perfectly. A NAS is located less than a metre from the router and connected to it. I know I should do a proper network but this works OK for me.

Anyway after some modifications in the grey box outside the house and on the pole the new modem was connected and the Ultrahub connected to the modem. The Desk top PC and Vodafone TV box and NAS were connected to the Ultrahub.

Internet was obtained and the PC and the NAS worked perfectly with no changes needed. Phone and tablet wireless was re-configured and all worked OK.   However the Vodafone TV box could not detect the ethernet cable.

The technician said I must have damaged the cable installing it under the house. He installed a UX 2190 by the TV box and connected it with an ethernet cable to the TV box. The TV box fired up and everything worked as it should.

After he left I decided to plug in the phone to the phone jack on the Ultrahub but it was not going- just beep beep repeat. A relatively short time on the Vodafone help line and the phone is getting activation Friday.

Now I was keen to get the TV box working on ethernet so I shot down to PB Tech and got a 15m Cat 6 patch cable. The one that didn't work was Cat 6A shielded. I tried the Cat 6 cable before installing under the house and it worked perfectly.

I removed the Cat 6A from under the house and installed the Cat 6. All worked perfectly so I now have ethernet to the TV box.

I tried the Cat 6A again just draping the cable across the floors but the TV box would not detect it.

However I could not see any damage so I used the 6A cable as the patch cable between the NAS box and the Ultrahub. It worked perfectly !!!!

So the conclusion would seem to be that the Vodafone TV box ethernet connection does not work with a Cat 6A patch cable for some reason.

Any ideas why?

PS There was another phone call about when the new speed would kick in - in a few days.

PPS The 1st in command is already not happy with the interface with the TV box but that is another story :-)

Hi it will be nothing specific to the cat6a, more likely a plug pin alignment issue or something else specific to that cable, can just about guarantee if you got another 6a cable it would work fine.

Still mystified then how come it worked on the NAS.

Ultrahub to NAS is OK. Ultrahub to Vodafone TV box is NOT OK

We really like the new TV box. So much snappier than the old T-Box. The Restart and Catch-up feature is pretty handy to 'rewind' a programme that's already midway or aired. You're also able to fast forward through the ads, just like the T-Box.

From reading other posts in this thread I got the impression part of the changeover process was a discussion with a VF Sales Rep about the configuration of the package of services going forward.

I received my letter a few weeks ago. Yesterday I was called by someone from Vodafone requesting permission to pass my details on to Downer so they could book an installation time. She also wanted to know if I had any medical alarms, but that was it. I asked if I'd get another call from sales to discuss the setup, but she said no, Downer would just set up a time and then do the installation. This morning I received a txt from Downer with a number to call to make the booking.

Is there a step missing here as I thought there was an opportunity to change the TV package and internet speed at the same time?

Cheers,

Pete.

As part of the upgrade you’ll get the fastest cable speed. The person I spoke with said that they were only doing the changeover and don’t have access to the same ‘levers’ as the salespeople. I just called this number to amend my plan: 0508 00 55 00.

Thanks Newtown,

I'm not sure I will get the fastest cable speed as I already have the HFC Fibre 200 plan. I think they were saying people who don't have a fibre plan would get the 1 Gig plan, but those who did already have fibre would just stay put. Doesn't make much sense to me from a customer relationship perspective to penalise the early adopters and reward the late comers. Perhaps they've changed their position on this but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for the number though, I'll see what they say.

Help am on the bludge

Does anyone in the Wellington / Hutt area have a T-Box remote control they don't need and could give me??

I ask as my 80+ mother-in-laws remote has stopped working making her get on floor to use buttons on front.

NB

1. Yes I know T-Box is obsolete and about to be removed any day now but until this happens she like to stay with T-Box as she is familiar with it.

2. VF shops do not provide replacements

Did you contact Vodafone support which was how we used to get replacement remotes? There used to be quite a lot you couldn't get done through the stores.

@sansom Any word on when us UFB + T-Box folks are going to be started? Quite keen to get it over and done with so I can upgrade from 100/20

I had the HFC 200/10  and they (the person explaining what the new service would be when they changed the modem) told me I would be going on "1000/500 unlimited data" plan.   Account now says Ultrafast HFC Max. I am not sure I am on the "up to 1000/500" - consistent 650Mbps/103Mbps from olkla speedtest with Vodafone Wellington server but just letting it all settle before I ring to check I am on the promised profile.
