I wouldn't pay that much; these are the ones I use:

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/SWHDLK1005A/D-Link-DGS-1005A-5-Port-Gigabit-Switch-Plastic-Hou

there's an 8-port version also.

My home LAN topology is slightly complicated due to house shape and some of my runs go through at least two of these switches, and I still get gigabit speeds across the link

Just a word of warning if you plan to use Dlink for Deco ethernet backhaul.

Those cheap dlinks wont run Ethernet backhaul on the Deco units. While they can push 1Gbit of traffic and are fine for end devices, they fail on backhaul for mesh protocols. TP-Link or Netgear switches work fine for this however.

Interesting because that's exactly what I'm using them for!  There are three switches between my router Deco and the next one in the chain.  No problems seen so far

and they are showing as Ethernet backhaul link in the deco app? Or still wifi? If they can't connect via ethernet they default back to wifi and daisychain wifi backhaul.

I tried with the dlink dgs1005a and dgs1008a and both didn't establish via ethernet.

I changed to a netgear and it established within a few seconds.

Pics below of the app when the Decos get the ethernet backhaul online when you select the node. Second pic when it is on wifi backhaul.

Yep, second node is showing ethernet connection and third via Mesh, which is as expected.  I'll now check the switch types.  Given these are layer-2 devices, they should be transparent to the Deco devices

I figured it was to do with this layer 2 issue Deco and dlinks have - seemed to fit the bill.

https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/1794/

Q4: Why my Deco units become unstable once they're connected via a switch?

It's probably that you're using a D-Link switch.

The Deco Ethernet backhaul feature is based on the standard IEEE 1905.1 protocol. However, we find that some D-Link switches will not forward packets based on IEEE 1905.1 protocol, causing all Deco units in a network loop and becoming quite unstable. If you have a D-Link switch and encounter an unstable issue with Ethernet backhaul, we recommend to change the switch to another brand or contact D-Link support directly for a fix.

Thanks, useful info.  I must just be lucky - I have checked and I have a D-Link 8 port and a D-Link 5-port between nodes 1 & 2 of my network, but it's always been like that and I've never seen any instability.

Definitely worth avoiding D-Link for this application, all other things being equal

Thanks all.

Will jump in around this level to be sure:

Netgear GS105 Prosafe 5-Port Gigabit Switch - $47 at JB Hifi

Think I've got this mapped out in my head now so will just wait for the gear to arrive and give it all a go.

Appreciate the tips above team.

Going to give this a go as our Fibre and Ultrahub are connected at the front right corner of the house, which makes the wifi in our bedroom which is the back left corner of the house a bit patchy.

Have just set this up today with the 2nd deco place in our bedroom, and so far appear to have a strong wifi signal down there. Previously I couldn't even connect to it half the time so looking good at first glance.

Setup question please.

On the old router I had a different ssid for 2.4 and 5 frequencies.
Eg Jackson_wifi_5GHz and just Jackson_Wifi for the 2.4

On this newer X20 unit there doesn’t seem to be that option
Just under main network you can decide if it’s offering 2.4 or 5.0 frequencies.

What are the thoughts here?
Should I find all devices looking at the older 5GHz ssid option and switch them to the new standard, and let the devices determine what suits them best?

@Jaxson , I had that setup too. I just combined 2.4 and 5 into the same SSID. Seemed the easiest choice.

Lol that’s what I’ve done too. Had to change the newer devices that used the 5GHz ssid but that didn’t take long.

Setup was nice and easy. Second one connected almost magically easily. Good speeds and coverage but equally as important to me is the parental controls look excellent too.

All good.

Very happy so far. Gone from barely able to connect to full WiFi strength in the bedroom now.

Set this up plugged into ultrahub and all good.

Then decided to try by plugging straight into the the chorus fibre box........wifi dropped from 400mbps to under 1, though deco app still stating that the system is receiving 900mbps.

Any ideas as to why this may happen & how to fix?

Did reboot everything, momentarily got back to full speed then dropped again.

Was "wall-to-wall" defined anywhere?

I have found areas where there is signal, but its very weak to the point of being unstable.

Have you any devices under High Priority (under QOS)?
