Hi - if your parents have vodafone sure signal for coverage today, that means they are already a vodafone mobile customer with a calling plan. All you need is a wifi calling compatible handset (from approved list on vodafone website) and as long as they are not on an ancient plan that doesn't support Volte (which i doubt any consumer plan will be these days), the wifi calling service should work for them. They do not necessarily need a vodafone fixed internet or voip connection as such.
Hope it helps
Thank you imranhassan, freitasm, Linux, MaxineN, Oblivian for your follow up help.
I have remotely run my parents through an Andrioid update of their Galaxy A10 to Android 11. They have a stable wifi connection to the house so that is sorted.
Wifi calling toggle on/off button is still not there in the menu yet after the update, but it is possible Voadafone are still working on adding functionality for various handsets in the background, as their website says more news coming in October.
I was attempting to get my parents onto this sooner rather than later so they don't just mass panic when the Sure Signal system goes down later in the year. It takes them a while to get used to changes in some technology.
Will get them to follow up with Vodafone in person later in October re the WiFi calling button.
Thanks again for all help provided to date.
@Morm - thanks for the pointer. It did seem to initially work whilst on mesh but has started becoming an issue again (not using private mac with this wifi). Will continue to troubleshoot.

I think its progressively been released wife's phone now has it after she got a carrier update, my doesn't
Any views expressed on these forums are my own and don't necessarily reflect those of my employer.
According to the great philosopher, "a little internet is a dangerous thing".
I've seen mentions of special codes for enabling VoLTE and VoWiFi, well not so much enabling as disabling the carrier check.
Would this be enough to get my Xaiomi phone off the SureSignal?
I'm a little reluctant to try in case my phone explodes.

What's your wife's phone model?

Just noticed this message on my phone, purportedly from VF.
Important Update: The Sure Signal service will close down from 10 December, and a newer technology called Wifi Calling will soon be available. As you've used Sure Signal recently, this change may affect you. Some older phones will not be compatible with Wifi Calling, so we'll be in touch closer to the time to either let you know how to get set up or what you need to do to be able to use Wifi Calling. For more information, visit vodafone.co.nz/3g-sure-signal
This is the first time VF have contacted me directly about the demise of Sure Signal.

Was at a client's place today, VDSL, suresignal, Galaxy S9. They had the txt about the suresignal being discontinued on the 10th of December, but I wasn't able to find any WiFi calling options at all on the phone. Would have thought a S9 would be sweet - it seemed to be a standard NZ variant of the S9. Any thoughts on that? Possibly a software update will be pushed out in the future?

Edit: No it is not

In September, Samsung S21 5G, S21+ 5G and S21 Ultra 5G will be enabled for Wifi Calling.
In October, we will release further details on Wifi Calling devices, including which devices are planned to support Wifi Calling over the coming months.
Ah thanks guys I should have read further on that page.
