As a telco do you want to take a gamble and roll the dice on that one? What if you don't do it but your rivals do? Prisoners dilemma.

If it goes that way hopefully the telco's all do support eSIM. Phone services are an important part of the device function, including data, and if an Android solution is more cost effective then I'll go that way.

Even though rare, when getting new phone and wish to move number to new one more messy with eSIM, but if that is only obstacle sure I'd work it out.

I would miss my Apple watch, it is a gen 1 and still goes well. Would still use iPad Pro, so when at home or if hot spot to it still have some of the Apple eco system.

And yet I don't have a eSim capable device so it's a bit moot. Even if I did. Kogan mobile still offers better value over spark. Don't see the point of switching.

I only use it to keep work and personal numbers separate. Use the work data plan (physical SIM), and just a few minuets/text on the personal SIM.

Seems to be a list here https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT209096 of wireless carriers that support eSIM world wide.

At current state looks like a big risk Apple dropping SIM cards, as most carriers do not support eSIM.

If scroll down to USA, can only see six carriers that support it.

From this page https://www.ibisworld.com/industry-statistics/number-of-businesses/wireless-telecommunications-carriers-united-states/

There is around 680 wireless telecommunications carriers  Businesses in the US in 2021.

Edit: Tried looking up info on China but finding conflicting info. With current phones looked like Apple made a special edition for China, that could hold two SIM cards.
