No.

The way it works is that any deco is bound to a network name. Once you factory reset any of the units, it won't know how or who or where to connect to until you tell it either by re-adding it to an existing network or creating a new one. If you factory reset the first deco on the network, that's it you have to start from scratch.

And now poor @retroman seems to be experiencing the same or similar grief.

I had occasion to factory reset the X53 again recently, and I assumed quite wrongly, that the X20s would reconnect to the X53 after setting it all back up again with appropriate IP settings and recreating the same wifi network.

I considered this scenario to be different from the first time, as before the X53 was new to the network, whereas this time the X20s already knew about it.

But no, as you say, once you factory reset the main deco, all other decos need to get a paperclip up the bottom as well.

Several people at One support did not know this, and it took me longer than it should have to work it out myself.

Yes I was, To solve the insanity I factory reset the unit and put it back in the BOX, I could not get the phone to go and as this is for my mother she needs the phone. If it could not be set up in an hour the decision was made to take it back.

Problem they want more MONEY to take it back.

Issues for me no way to integrate the Pi-Hole for the network add blocking and using its DHCP! It did pass on the internet to the rest of the network after changing its IP to 192.168.1.1 any more changes to its net work settings seemed to be forbidden. The unit is also loaded, with pay services if you try to use any of the advanced stuff... and that app still thinks a DECO is still on and hooked up there seems no way to remove a setup on the app though at this stage I do not care. For the record if that is all they have business there would be a lot of places that would have sent this thing back as go back and try again

I was able to resurrect my Ultrahub last week. It has all the sip info for the homephone in it still.

Am I now able to swap the X53 and the Ultrahub in and out as the need arises and retain all services?

Or will One have to intervene each time for the homephone to work?

Right this depends on what One NZ may have done in the background.

Here are the 3 scenarios you could be in.

If the SIP passwords are different between what is stored on the Ultrahub and the X53, only the correct one will authenticate.
The SIP details between the X53 and the Ultrahub are the same, so either should work (cannot put the One NZ guarantee on this as I haven't worn the hat in almost a year).
If you factory reset the Ultrahub and the X53 is the expected CPE. You're done. Game over. X53 only until you call One NZ. Ultrahub will not pull the SIP configuration until One NZ frontline tells it to.
