Are they sending a replacement for your HG569 (router) or modem? These are separate things but people get confused in the naming.

If the replacement doesn't work, then a technician should visit to ensure there is no cable problems.

Whatever you decide, ignore any recommendation from One NZ to move to wireless broadband.

Either you keep your HFC connection after it's fixed, or move to fibre. But do not take wireless broadband.

Well that answered my question. Was thinking to go from HFC to wireless as it worked out cheaper since One NZ have upped the prices.

We have an amazing fibre network. Almost anyone who wants it can have it.

Wireless is only good for the provider, so they don't pay Chorus fees.

Wireless has its place. I got it for my MIL who lives alone and uses one device at a time.

I get the odd complaint that she needed to turn it off and on again because Netflix was not working.

For a place with more than one person using the 'net, if Fibre is available, get it. It is also a good investment in the property too.

They've given me a track link. The new modem is expected to arrive Friday.

If you are intending to stay on cable, I suggest you still get fibre installed - as others mentioned it won’t be free forever - you now don’t need to get it connected after the install, ie it is sitting there inactive but you have it when you want it in the future.

Don't go with Fibre.  Once thing they don't tell you is the full name, Fibre Optic cable.

That's right, you get a little piece of cable that comes into your home that transmits light.

You know what that means, right?

IT MEANS THE GOVERNMENT CAN LOOK DOWN THE FIBRE INTO YOUR HOUSE TO MONITOR EVERYTHING YOU DO.

Stick with the cable modem.  When the Rt Hon Christopher Luxon tries to stick his peepy peepers into your house with a cable modem all he gets to see is a big ol' copper wire.

Fibre is already installed in our block of flats. I just haven't asked for it.

Well now it makes even less sense that you haven't switched to fibre yet.

My 2c...

Try the new router - however like others have said, It's quite possible that this is actually due to degradation on the HFC network.

As it sounds like you already have an ONT installed and inactive, if the new router doesn't fix things up, I'd recommend just shifting to a fibre plan and save the headaches.

I know there's a cost difference, however have a think on the speed you need, rather than just the fastest you can get - you'd be surprised how much even the most basic 50/10 fibre plans can support. Of course, I don't know your use case, but if you can deal with a slight speed "decrease" (or more accurately, capacity decrease), I'd imagine you can keep the pricing very similar, if not even a tad less.

Doesn't sound you have the ONT installed though - that's the part that would cost the most.

Why not book in a free install via Chorus (as linked to a few posts ago) in case your cable connection issues aren't resolved? If that's what happens, at least you've got the fibre install all done and you can connect it up when you're ready.

So I installed the new modem today which is a deco. Since I already had a deco connected to the previous modem, I needed to change the deco configuration which was frustrating because it took several minutes before it recognised the new deco and had trouble connecting to the software until I plugged the old one back in but finally it appears the PC internet and Super WIFI are working though I haven't given it any rigorous testing. The problem I'm having now is that the landline is not working. I've plugged it into the right spot but it's dead. I tried a direct connection and still no go so I know it's not the floor cable.

log a ticket for the landline, chances are they didn’t provision it for the new router.
and in your post above, you say you connected the old router again?  Is this now disconnected and sitting as a doorstop?
