But did it solve the problem you started with?

freitasm: But did it solve the problem you started with?

Yes, I don't appear to be having internet issues now, but I haven't been on that much.

I managed to use my deco software on my Android yesterday to reconfigure the main unit after some rigmarole. However, I tried to get back on it last night and it now insists on a picture puzzle for security. However, it takes ages to load the picture and then it doesn't respond to my screen touch and then gives me a timeout, that I didn't complete the puzzle in time. My tablet is an Octo 2.2 GHz, surely that's fast enough.

Just an update. The issues continued and I just had a serviceman in today. It turned out it had to do with the way it was installed some time ago and the issues had escalated in the last few months. All fixed now.
My problem with the deco software on the tablet is that the picture puzzle had a slider underneath so I had misunderstood how to solve it.

Good news it's sorted - however I would still recommend getting a fibre install arranged for your address, in the event the cable network is removed/shut down (or you have further issues with your current connection).

You don't need to get fibre connected, but at least it would be fully installed at your address (ready to use, if you choose to or not) and the installation itself is free for now. I know a few people who are using other types of connection who have done this.

You have an ONT installed in your apartment or not??

I don't know what that is but I know fibre optic was laid down under our driveway. I am part of a block of flats and at least one of them has that plan.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

An ONT is a box Chorus installs inside your home. That's where the fibre install is completed. The connection from the fibre running under your driveway to the ONT is free, but won't be forever.

Most likely only have microduct under drive way with fibre blown through it at install.

Doesn't sound like it has been - you would need a white Chorus box on the wall inside your address. If that hasn't been done (I don't mean the fibre cable being installed in the driveway) then that's the last thing that needs to happen. As pointed out, this won't be free forever.

Even though my internet is fine now, they have informed me they've discovered a problem with the network as well and will get back to me.

One NZ mean the HFC network, code name FibreX, is obsolete.

I've been having issues with the HFC network as well. The problems started about 6 weeks ago and really mainly affects international gaming. DL/UL speeds within NZ are good at about 300DL/30UL, but as soon as I go international they plummet. Gaming is massively affected, and voice comms are badly degraded. According to speedtest, UL to places like LA or Montreal are often about 0.2Mbps. Called OneNZ and got put through to their service desk with dogs barking and roosters crowing in the background. They just tried a factory reset on the modem (ancient Technicolor black box). There was no mention of modem replacement or other solution options. I was also informed that the network was only for inside NZ, and it was only for data, and some confusion about latency and throughput.

I don't expect full speeds internationally, but I also don't expect sub 1Mbps speeds. Network issue? Trying to push people off HFC? Modem issue? Should I be pushing for a replacement modem? And yes, I've got fibre installed, but the equivalent plans are all about 30$ a month more and that's just not in my budget ATM.

Maybe talking to the same CSR that told @PastaJoe that 5G didn't support streaming.
