Ahmed .. did you have any probs with connecting to data with the iphone .. i have one for while at least .. on supa prepay with 100mb data addon for $10 .. all i get is PDP authentication error.
I can connect sweet as using wireless but nothing via 3g etc.

I would call vodafone for  customer support but after calling then twice this morning and no help and getting charged for each call, i am beginning to dislike them more and more ... roll on the new XT network i say.

ahmad: Not liking my chances of getting decent data on XT though - their "test drive" campaign involves given x number of customers a new phone and 240MB (!!!) of monthly data to use. Reading in between the lines I don't believe their data plans will offer a lot more data than VF's current plans.

I'm a reasonably heavy user of data on my E71 and struggle to use much more than about 100MB / month - 240MB is a decent amount unless you are tethering or downloading a lot of songs/videos.

Have wanted to ask this for some time, and now is as good a time as any.

I have used my iPhone on about 3-5 occasions on $1 casual data for 10Mb in a day while on holidays.

The only thing I've used the iPhone for has been email, and VERY light websurfing - usually to get a little bit of information via a Google search.

Almost inevitably I've had to turn my data tap OFF during the day in order to prevent going over. I've always received the 8Mb warning TXT, and even overshot by 200kb once.

My apps are not updating in the background as far as I know. The apps don't update unless I access them.

I am not sure how geeks like scott and the rest of us could keep under 100Mb a month to be completely honest. Opening a non-mobile enhanced page full of flashy ads (sorry Geekzone but your site was not at all helpful in keeping me under the 10Mb) could alone cost me a significant chunk in images alone!

So what am I doing wrong or different to you guys??

P.S. Is there a site on the internet which you can ask it to load a url (eg. www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp) and get it to give you an idea of how much data it would cost to load that page?

Vodafone seriously need to reconsider their customer service fee of $1 per call for prepay users.... you'd think if they were charging you to get customer support, the actual support would be of at least an average standard!!

Have you changed your APN? Instructions for doing this are on the Vodafone Website. Or here for your convienance:

Can I use the Broadband Lite 100MB data Add-on with my iPhone?

Yes you can use the iPhone with the Broadband Lite 100MB data Add-on. You will be charged standard rates for the Broabdand Lite Add-on depending on whether you have the PrePay or On Account version. However please note you will have to change the APN (Access Point) setting that is on the device. From the menu list go to "Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network" and change the APN field to read: www.vodafone.net.nz

Yeah. The moment you start visibly charging for something you really start to be judged on the service you provide.

I think if they sat down and though about it, they've lost much more money than they have gained out of that change.

How much negative press did they buy themselves.

BTW... prepay iPhone users... you have to change the APN back to the normal VF APN. For some reason they made the default APN on the iPhone an iPhone specific one that Prepay users aren't allowed on.

Can't really see any need for this??? But I'm sure they are loving pissing everyone off with the $1 per call to help users sort this out.

So do you get your $1 back since it's their problem?

Apologies in advance if it's been covered, but I couldn't be bothered reading through 15 pages...

Is there a way to monitor your data usage with the 100mb prepay plan? I can't see it.

Btw, I'm really happy with this (exactly what I've been hoping for since the 1mb per day change). I'm a light data user (less than 10mb a day) so this plan suits me very well. I can't wait to see what happens to the available plans after XT launches.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

You can check it via text... I think text myaddons to 756. Think this is the same on account.

Also you can check on VF website.

And if you have an iPhone you can check you usage in the settings.... though you have to manually reset this counter.

Yes, just send a SMS with the word "BAL" to 777 and you will get a SMS back with your voice and data balance.

Yup .. you need to send two diff txts to get the info back .. Bal to 777 will only get voice info back ... Myaddons to 756 will give info on all addons including how much data you have left, when the billing re-occurs etc.

I get both balances when I do BAL to 777, most of the time at least sometimes I only get my $ balance, id say about 70% of the time a second msg comes through with my MB's remaining.

This is on account though so prepay may be different

Dont forget you can keep buying top up bundles once you have exhausted your main data bundle.
