RunningMan:

While the "Things to Know" section does indicate that this plan is not valid after 17 Feb 2025, it seems pretty poor they are still advertising it for sale.

https://one.nz/pay-monthly/

EDIT: And $70/month for 50GB isn't a good offer. Spark are $65 for 75GB. If you want to go MVNO then Mighty Mobile & Kogan have both got better pricing (probably, depends on exact use case) and $65 for 80GB at 2degrees.

And $70 for 28 days buys you 250 gig full speed data on Skinny.

I got an email from OneNZ earlier today with a summary of my spend and usage for the last 12 months which was pretty cool to see. Like a bad Spotify wrapped.
At its peak, I used 61GB in the Feb 2024 billing cycle.

Part of this email was suggestions to review my usage and whether I’m still on the right plan. They detailed the 3 plans on offer, including this medium plan which is about to be removed. No mention of the new plan.
Another example of internal teams not talking to each other I guess.

It feels like One NZ is just repeating the same mistakes Telecom made:
1. Eliminating lifetime discounts.
2. Removing the $10 bundle discount.
3. Raising prices, creating a significant cost increase when combined with the bundle discount removal.
4. Maintaining uncompetitive mobile plans that offer less data than competitors while still hiking prices.
5. Recently increasing the $65 plan to $70 while raising data to 50GB—yet competitors like 2degrees offer 80GB and Spark provides 75GB at the same price point.

The rebrand seems pointless; they’re essentially still Vodafone. The rebranding was meant to deliver savings to customers by eliminating royalties to Vodafone, but there’s been no visible benefit to consumers. Meanwhile, other telcos are lowering prices and offering more value.

Additionally, One NZ has slashed costs across the business by reducing staff, further impacting the service experience.

So. Why stay with them or even sign up with them? As you are just burning money

May as well have just kept the Vodafone name and saved on the rebranding!

I still haven't received the email. Maybe being sent out in waves. Or maybe I'd have a case to say I was never notified once it changes lol.

My plan rolls over in 4 days time - I assume that I'll receive the email immediately after the plan renwal - thereby giving me a month's notice.

They just shifted who they were paying - previously Vodafone UK now to Infratil. It wasn't as if they were ever going to be issuing a member's dividend, ala. some power lines companies around the country.

EviLClouD:

Honestly i'm surprised One NZ hasn't attempted to be more competitive. They're one of the more expensive mobile providers - even Spark is better value and they're usually the worst

One.nz is getting to greedy considering you can get 250 gig with skinny for $70 per 28 days and unlimited data with mighty mobile who are doing a promo at the moment.

I got the e-mail today, it had a special 0800 number on it which I just called which goes to one of their overseas call centers. Basically what they are pushing is either a reminder of all the benefits the plan comes with e.g some international mins/texts or the option to downgrade to their small tier plan with a 5gig cap (we need more data than that).

I’ve got a few months left on my phone interest free payments so will have a ponder if I want to do a in-principal carrier switch over that time

100%. They have been gradually increasing the prices for mobile and broadband. Not a good move…

Fortunately, most providers now offer an eSIM option, which makes the switch slightly easier :)

The total opposite happened after I moved from One to Spark, due to other reasons.

I join their (spark) $90 unlimited plan, get notified of a $2/m increase, then two months later see they revamp their options and it comes with a price decrease back to $90.

One of the basic principles in business and marketing is to stay relevant and therefore competitive.

As other posters have eluded to - the loss of staff is a direct loss of talent.

Switching providers has never been easier, and it could save you!

I note two off mighty mobile plans are now half price on a promotion.

@ajw I know in no way am I on the best value for money plan, but that doesn’t bother me personally.

But for the value conscious consumer, your point proves there are savings to be made upon further exploration.
