the real question is “who’s gonna pay for removing all the aerial and underground HFC coax copper”. I do hope there is a calculation on removal costs for future projects that involve the poles and streetworks.

I highly doubt that any undergrounded network would be removed as it's not visible anyway and would be extremely costly to do so - aerial is different however and would be a lot cheaper; most of it would just involve unscrewing/unclipping it from the pole and taking it down.

Ditto. Had fibre installed a couple of years ago but has sat unused as cable remained best value for money.

Assume the Vodafone Ultra Hub will not be fibre compatible?

If there is an announcement, its unlikely to be good,
The status quo requires nothing, an announcement means change, and I simply can't see them investing more money in it...

So on the chances of it being bad news

A couple of historic threads to explain the situation there, but from memory basically TCL (later Vodafone) had a deal with the developer to install nothing but cable at addresses in the suburb. That lasted a while but then fibre came along and (it appears) newer addresses had a choice of either cable, fibre or - in some places - both.

If the cable network shuts down, I guess they would now have to go to the hassle of installing fibre to all properties into the suburb now - copper installations won't be happening.

I just plugged a random address into the 2degrees checker and only had the option of FWA. That same random address doesn't even show up in Chorus, there's very little around Pegasus... and for what's actually there, it's probably for the CMTS(plural).

Unless you happen to live around Te Pakiaka Road... you're stuck with FWA until it expands.

My understanding is the vast majority of land parcels have access to OneNZ HFC, but there are a few blocks bordered by Solander Rd, Infinity Dve, Hodgkinson Rd & Whakatipu St that have access to Enable fibre. You can see this on broadbandmap.nz - just search "Pegasus" and toggle the fibre and cable layers on the map. Addresses within the small block bounded by these streets show fibre ready on the Enable website and a quick check shows ordering fibre is possible for those select addresses from a number of retailers (not just OneNZ).

This resident group meeting memo from 2015 has some good (albeit outdated) information. My understanding is that TelstraClear originally had a 10 year HFC exclusivity deal with the original developer which expired in 2017. I can only assume that the block mentioned above was reticulated with Enable fibre in/after 2017 - perhaps as that block was the last stage to be developed (I'm no Pegasus expert).

Despite the HFC exclusivity deal being over, I suspect there's little incentive for the likes of Chorus or Enable to build UFB to the rest of the subdivision at this point in time - strictly IMHO (to be clear - I am not speaking for Chorus here at all).

IF an announcement from OneNZ is imminent, that could potentially change the game, again IMHO.

I imagine that some parts of enable are already there and enable are ready to go, they're just waiting for the opportunity, aka potential HFC decomm.
