Sure faster like this person is getting

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=39&TopicId=36287

You are adding no value to a thread going around saying the above as many users across NZ are getting great speeds as I have posted above

The end user could have a issue with a device this can be proven by basic fault checking try in different area

Exciting stuff, XT has logged their first network speed fault. Won't be their last either, but independant testing shows that they run the fastest network in NZ, my point was that if people are unhappy with the service they are getting then they can move on and try another service.

I had the same experience in the CBD of Auckland with speeds lower than dialup and no resolutions after the 3G upgrade so I moved to XT and had a 20X speed increase and really noticed the difference.

But yes, nothing would make me happier to see Vodafone run a fast reliable 3G network, and lets see what happens with his connection - does it get fixed, was it just his device, or the Vodafone network. Not trolling, just saying there's options now if people arn't happy.

I got sick of waiting for Vodafone's 3G to be faster than 2G speeds and moved to XT. People you have two options stay and wait and pray or move and get faster speeds...

I moved to XT and it's so so so much better than Vodafone. Now I just gotta change from XNET to Orcon!

What about 2degrees? Good idea to wait for them to come out first.

I wish people would stop saying that.. I mean, yeah, i can understand why you're saying it; but the fact is. They're not going to be able to offer really competitive rates straight off.. and from what i've heard they arent going to really compete with data either.

can I suggest not doing speedtests off the Wellington server, I find with my DSL connection I get more realistic results from tauranga and christchurch (and maybe auckland).
The wellington server is based on citylink and due to peering issues, data can be routed overseas then back to nz

I suggest the TGA server... Auckland is slow.

I get higher pings of auckland (even though im in Auckland) than I do of the serverin TGA

Funny. I moved from Vodafone to Telecom and now get good speeds, about to move from XNET to orcon because of the same... Auckland Speedtest server is hosted in (drum roll) XNET's data centre. Looks like they don't even have enough national traffic.

Thanks for the advice. I find the speedtest.net results faily accurate. Using speedtest.net I am getting 1MB/s at home which is probably accurate, but not in Wellington city. The time it takes me to load geekzone over my 3g connection is proof enough that the service is terrible slow and that there are serious network problems on the VF network in Wellington. Speedtest.net shows me simular results. No good in trying another type of test to proove what I already know. My connection is running at snailspace.

I always use the melbourne server and Tauranga, a good quality connection (telecom in my case) will show the speeds to be more or less equal. A poor connection will show up chronically in the speedtest.

Then download a file, find something from decent server.

How ironic, I typed "speed test" into google and the sponsored result is:

Vodafone 3G Coverage Map
3G coverage where 97% of NZers
live, work & play. Its 3G Made Easy
www.vodafone.co.nz

I'll be doing some direct speed comparisons tomorrow, will be interesting to see the results.

Johnr - I thought you said VF was up to something with it's network re backbone speeds? I have one day of improved speed!, that my friend is not good enough. It has now been over a week, I have tested from exactly the same spot each day and the D/L speed on my phone is 114kb's a second. On wifi it's 5000+

Any update?
