Personally I think it is like playing with fire trying to do the cancellation thing to only save a few dollars. I'm sure the VF T&C's will say 'subject to change' somewhere in them.

I guess that is very true...Better be safe than sorry...
I don't want to be trapped in a contract at the end of the day anyways...

I have spent a lot of time investigating the issue - speaking to a representative today at a Vodafone branded First Mobile outlet I was advised that you can break the contract in the first month for $350. As far as I have seen there is nothing to say anywhere that you are technically receiving a subsidy, that you would need to pay back.

On the other hand, if you do sign up for the pre-registration offer, and then break the contract, I understand that you will lose a pro-rata amount of the account credit (if you qualify for it).
From the Vf T&C's:

(f) At our discretion, if you terminate your Agreement prior to the expiry of
the Term for any reason other than our default:
(i) you will repay to us any credit we have given against your account,
pro-rated to the length of the Term remaining; and (ii) any credit
remaining on the account will not be used to set off any Charges or
early termination charges.

The $100 pre-reg bonus is an account credit, so by cancelling after a month you will probably forfeit 23/24 remaining months of this, i.e. you will get about $4 credit.

That is the way I understand it anyway, any other thoughts?

There are a lot of clever people at vodafone so i doubt this is a balls up.

I think this is a cunning stunt to get people to sign onto a plan that otherwise would just by the phone. Most people will stay on contract for the 3 month iphone / smartphone plan and then be too lazy to end the plan.

But like satch sez, if the contract cancellation scheme doesnt work, you only have yourselves to blame. Signing a contract should not be done lightly.

Personally, I'd just pay the fullprice. I know its a crap load to pay, but hey, i would rather that them mistakenly get charged like 1800.

EDIT: Especially if it was my own fault.. Because then i'd have noone to blame! lol

I doubt the credit is pro rata. The $100 should be credited immediately and available for spending while you are on account. I wouldnt rely on the credit being carried over to prepay though if you cancelled.

I've got to be honest and say that a free dock is better than nothing. I was going to buy the iPhone only for $1379 anyway, and now I get a free dock with it too if I'm quick enough.

Although I will be paying $25 delivery as I've got the patience of an old lady at a department store sale...

I feel a little bad for the people on contracts. I think its a bit rough to exclude them for the $100.

The same delivery is a nice touch. Beats going out on your lunch break and possibly queuing.

So they bloody well should to. You're paying a truck load for it. (even if you're paying $25 EXTRA on top) [Sheesh, endless pit anyone?]

A vodafone moderator on the vodafone forum said that in the contract even on the $40 iphone plan,

"in the small print it states that you agree on paying a disconnection fee up to $650 "

Found this in section 6f of the terms and conditions. http://www.vodafone.co.nz/about/legal-stuff/on-account-terms.pdf

Looks like they probably will pro rata the $100 credit over 24 months.

@imadog - that is exactly what I said about 10 posts before

How many people have pre-reserved a phone at one of the stores for tomorrow? Could you buy from a store and make use of the account credit? (i.e. will it be in the form of a voucher you can take in?) It is not clear as to whether it is for online orders only - it merely states that you need to apply for the incentive online.
