DjShadow: I read somewhere VF (or telecom?) is looking at putting a site up at Mokau/Awakino sometime....
huge hole coverage wise as the signal runs out from just south of Pio Pio and not regained until Urenui (state highway 3)

Was integrated last week

Goes live soon

Does it cover just the Mokau/Awakino area? or will it get a signal down to Mt Messenger and up the Gorge ? least then it should give Sh3 pretty good coverage the whole way through

johnr: It has to be on a plan even if its the $10 per month lite plan

Thanks again John. How would I go about getting this plan? I didn't see it mentioned on the website as being an on account option, and when I inquired at a shop today the (very friendly) lady told me it would need to be on a plan, she suggested some $40 per month plan giving me 200MB of data? I'd rather pay $10 for the Lite plan and just change it up or down as I need it.

Go back to the store and advise you would like the lite plan no contract

Thank you very kindly John, I'll head back to the shop once I get my Vodem Stick Pro sorted and ask for the Broadband Lite plan.

Can I have it added/charged to my existing VF account? What do I need to take in to get it setup, or do I just need to know my account number?

Mobile number or account number

Just advise you would like a new data connection added to your existing account

John

I didn't realise there are 2 Mokau's in the North Island...
One I was thinking of is 62kms North of New Plymouth on State Highway 3 (North Taranaki Coast), between Urenui and Pio Pio there is an 80km gap of no signal on VF (and Telecom as far as I know). I know if you stand in the right spot in mokau with a CDMA phone you can get a 1 bar signal and a call can be established.

Good stuff, I thought the Northland Mokau looked a bit remote for mobile coverage lol
If the Mokau transmitter is up the hill enough then it should provide good marine coverage over north taranaki

I have had to wait till getting to mokau to make calls on the way to new plymouth in the past. If I stopped and got out of the cars by the shops there then there was 1-2 bars of telecom cdma and it would work. With vodafone the handset was showing signal but no makey the call. Same deal in awakino. Has the gsm coverage been improved thru there as well or just 3g? Have not been that way for about 6 months now and I really hate being out of touch for that long.

I've not been down that road for a long while now but I had the same result with Telecom CDMA by the shops, using a nokia 3105 I could get 1 bar of signal but was enough to get an answer from *333.
John's post indicates the site is GSM only, can only assume they will add WCDMA900 one day...

Hey John;

Any plans to put a Voda Tower in the little town of Wakefield (South of Nelson) - Even if it's just a Roadside Lightpole one it will be still epic.. The maps on the coverage site state that it's pretty good coverage, but in reality there are so many holes in that >.<
